SOLD!

1846 $5 gold half eagle (small date, but you might check to confirm).
If you've bought from me before, you know I'm always on the lookout for original circulated gold.
This lady is a great example. She's seen honest use and has a few chattery lines at 3:00 obverse. But otherwise she's original dark straw honey color and pretty damn hot for a 170+ year old survivor.

We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

How the hell did I miss this!

It's definitely the small date variety. PCGS Cain Facts states that there are only 50 surviving examples in all grades. B)

I heard from someone on the forums that if you snooze you lose. Lol.

For those who may be interested, this variety is very easy to identify. There is a small die chip at the bottom right serif on the 4 in the date. PCGS Coin Facts states that this variety is about nine times rarer than the Large Date variety.
