Cert # assigned - does this mean it's been graded?

If there's a cert number assigned like this, does that mean it's been graded, or would they assign this 'Cert #' even if it did not meet my minimum grade? Pretty sure I marked it as a minimum PSA 10. It's been stuck in this status with a cert #, but not completed for at least a week or two now.

OK, thanks. Also, sorry if there's a better place to post questions like this.

Unless it has changed, I believe cert number is issued before grade. As a side note, why on earth would you set a min grade 10?

I've gotten autographs that were questionable back from PSA with the cert label stuck directly on my CS-1, so not only might you not get a grade, you might lose a CS-1 also (those stickers are impossible to peel off, for good reason I'm sure, but I sure would like to reuse those CS-1s).

    I just don't want less than a BGS 9.5, so if it's not a PSA 10, I'll probably get a BGS 9.5

Just hit the back button on your browser without hitting "Post Comment", then you can go into your profile and delete your old drafts.

Also, there's a little gear next to the date of your prior posts - you can use that to edit any of your posts (so you could have edited and replaced your post at 12:01 with the content from your 12:02 post, as an example).

cards are assigned a cert when logged in the beginning of the process and it follows it all the way through to the end when its slabbed. if it doesnt meet the crossover grade, or fails to grade entirely, the cert is void and will come back to nothing. being assigned a cert is the beginning of the entire process and doesnt mean anything until you get the outcome email.

To be more specific, every card you submit is assigned a cert # during the research & ID part of the process. This is when they print out a sticker identifying the card so that it is tied to your submission and has all the identifying info that would go on the flip of the slab.

Should have read closer. My original statement stands up! Asking for a min grade 10 is a great way to waste a grading fee.

This is correct. As an example, if you look at any cards you get back in your orders that weren't graded, whether N4, N6, N9 or whatever, they all have cert numbers on the flip that they stick on the CS1. However, if you try to add that cert to your registry inventory, it won't work.

  • Thanks for the info, folks. Looks like PSA is charging almost double prices now, for an even longer wait. I was paying $79/card for express a couple weeks ago, and now it's $150, and my last grade a month ago came back about 2 weeks sooner (at least). Damn...

Does anyone know what this means, or if there's a way to find out what it actually graded, if it didn't meet the minimum? They should tell you what it graded, even if it didn't meet the minimum. They never said you won't get to know what they graded it, and they better not be grading it after seeing the minimum. Also, why place 'MIN GRADE', if it didn't meet it. Shouldn't it be, 'DID NOT MEET MIN GRADE'?

Also, what the heck happened to the cert number? There was cert number before, like the one I asked about above, but now there isn't one. These guys are annoying.

Well your card was not given a grade because it did not meet the min grade you requested. Thus the cert# was revoked (though it will still show up on the sticker on the cardsaver the card is returned in. As for the phrase of "min grade" and what you think it should be, that 's just how they choose to display it, proper English is not a requirement.

You don't get to know the grade, you just get to know that the grade was something LOWER than what you requested it be. And NO, they did not see the min grade before it was graded. The grader writes the grade down on a form or the computer, and then the next step QA1 or QA2 will see that you requested a min grade, see that the grader didn't meet it, and then act accordingly, printing out a flip with MIN GRADE instead of an actual grade. And they didn't tell you that you WOULD find out the grade if it did not meed the min requested. What they told you is that if the min grade is not meant, the card will be returned ungraded. You can't assume, you have to go with what it is in writing/print/website.

    Welcome to grading!

Just realized you requested a min grade of PSA 10..... Yeah, we all knew that wasn't going to end well!
