Should the Bucs extend Brady?

He has one year left, 2021. He has publicly said he wants to play until 45. Privately, he has apparently told friends he would like to play beyond 45.

if you were the Bucs GM, how far out would you feel comfortable extending Tommy? 1 year, 2 or more?
he is in uncharted waters here. He is older than any other full time starter in history. he has TONS of mileage because of all the playoff runs. almost 3 additional seasons worth of playoff games.

on the flip side, He seems incredibly healthy. He has been incredibly durable throughout his career. maybe the most durable QB ever. after taking over for Drew back in 2001, the only times he has missed a start for injury has been 2008 when he missed the final 15 games due to severe knee injury. other than that, he has not missed a single start due to injury in 19 seasons.

19 seasons. that is incredible durability. the guy seems to know how to stay on the field.

However, he will be 44 this coming season. this is professional football. father time has waited for Brady, but eventually he will get him too. how long would you extend? I would extend 1, maybe 2 years. no further than that.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I would just let him play the contract out, no need to throw stupid money at him and not afford to keep good players around him.

No extension until you see how he recovers from the knee surgery.

one of the advantages of an extension is they could kick the salary cap hit down the road and have more money to resign/sign FA until Brady retires. it seems they have a 2 or 3-year window to go all in and build a mini-dynasty, but they will need all the salary cap advantages they can get.

NO did it for years with Brees. NE also did it for years with Brady. NE had a dead cap hit of over 13 MM for tom this year. I think it is worth it to go all-in and maximize the talent you have now as there is no guarantee of future talent.

It's doubtful that Brady even wants to stay long term with the Bucs. Most likely his next career move will be to sign and play for the New York Jets. The Jets could use a Super Bowl win and Brady is just the man to deliver one. Broadway Tom!

As sick of Tom Brady as I am, he has earned the "right" to play until he is no longer able, or decides he is ready to quit.

Yes, add one year. He has always been adamant about not being in his lame duck year. The Patriots did this to him, and it is one of the reasons he left.
