Pack Authentication & Grading

The new pricing doesn't seem to matter when it comes to the age of a pack, even though the wording just above the pricing chart seems to say it does? So it looks like the only criteria is the value of the graded pack, correct?

"Pack Authentication & Grading
Unopened Pack authentication and grading service levels are based on the year of the pack’s release. If you have a pack with a declared value above $5,000, select the Premium option."

ECONOMY PACK
$25/pack
100+ Business Days

$249 maximum declared value.

REGULAR PACK
$50/pack
100+ Business Days

$999 maximum declared value.

PRIME PACK
$100/pack
100+ Business Days

$2,499 maximum declared value.

Declared value now determines service level and submission fee, not the year, which is actually a good thing for lower valued packs before 1981.

If I submit a factory sealed box (or a BBCE Shrinkwrapped box), with the intention of grading all packs inside, would PSA add on the label the pack is FASB (From A Sealed Box)?

I would pay extra for that on the label...

I would say that the only time that would make sense would be if the box itself was FASC. Then, maybe PSA could add FASC to the label?? You'd have to ask. If it's not FASC, you have to assume the sealed BBCE box is a "frankenbox" so FASB wouldn't carry much clout.

That's what I thought, so looks like they need to update that one paragraph where it says "Unopened Pack authentication and grading service levels are based on the year of the pack’s release."

I'm thinking like a box of 1993 SP Baseball with the Upper Deck factory shrinkwrap. Those could be labelled FASB. Or in terms of the BBCE -- only if the BBCE label says FASC - then yes a pack that has FASC would be great too.

No, they will not. I know someone who tried to do that with an FASC wax box and they could not do it in that case, either.

What determines “declared value”? Pricing can vary wildly depending on the grade that is conferred.
