Washington Dumps Cheerleaders

HydrantHydrant Posts: 7,773 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Washington Football Team (it's painful writing those words) has decided to not have a traditional cheerleading squad. That's too bad. Years ago when the Rams were playing in Anaheim, I had front row end zone seats. The Rams were a horrible joke those last few years here before they blessed us locals and moved to St. Louis. Anyway, the best part of the game back then was the cheerleaders. From the vantage point of my seat I could almost reach out and touch them. Aahh, if only. Cheerleaders are good. They add that little something extra to the game day experience. The Washington Football Team has lost their collective marbles.

Will they keep the hot dog cannon?

Seriously, I heard it is because they "trigger" some people. And.....I can't argue with that because they sure do trigger me. Do they ever!👯 🤸 👯

first the nickname, then cheerleaders, now the hot dog cannon. Can Washington make a good decision right now??

maybe they consider it a weapon of mass destruction.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

And Washington will still be a crappy team anyways lol

Add Washington to the list. The Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers don't have cheerleaders. The Packers do roll out various college squads from time to time but don't have an official squad

Neither did I. I remember going to see the Pats at Buffalo and their cheerleaders were called the “Jills” I think?

The Jills disbanded in 2013. They were only officially endorsed by the Bills. Several cheerleaders sued both the Bills and the Bills organizations and the Jills are no more.

The Browns and Giants have never had cheerleaders.

The Lions didn't have official cheerleaders from 1975 to 2015. Probably felt they didnt need them. Not much to cheer about

This is not "newsworthy" IMHO, as it is not something that is unexpected.

Now what would be "newsworthy" would be a story reporting that the Dallas Cowboys decided to now longer have cheerleaders (The DCC).

Imagine the firestorm that would generate :)

Not much to cheer about in the state of Michigan after the Red Wings won their 11th Stanley Cup in 2008.
The only thing that gave Michigan any pride the last 13 years is this guy...............

When your organization has shown a troubling propensity for objectifying women, you really have no choice but to get rid of your cheerleaders.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

cheerleaders at NFL games was always a stupid thing, ranking right behind every Team needing to have a mascot. I've attended a lot of games, the last thing I need or want is a distraction during play and entertainment during time-outs.

    good riddance.

Roaming lap dancers in the stands might be an option.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,643 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think most Normal fans view Cheerleaders and Mascots as a fun way of adding to the atmosphere unless Ofcourse your part of the “I get offended by every little thing” crowd. Either way I think it’s does more good to have them then not but it’s definitely not a necessity.

Wow, No Fun League strikes again :(

BTW, I have to say this again, whatever they call their team, PLEASE don't call them the Generals!! I'd just as soon they call themselves the Washington Generics (hey that'd be a fun nickname eh?) rather than the Generals!!
