Retail or Hobby?

Good evening everyone. I've always wondered about this but never heard what others think so here goes....when you buy boxes or packs do you prefer hobby, retail, or both? I've collected cards off and on my whole life but where I live now we don't have a hobby store so my only options are Walmart or order online. Hobby boxes are soooooooo expensive now. Doesn't matter what sport. I finally found some Topps 2021 baseball packs in Walmart today. Got a few good base rookie cards but nothing special. I'd just really like to hear what others think or what your strategy is. Thanks!

For Topps baseball sets, I enjoy the variety of retail.

I have found good cards in both. I do wonder if sometimes the manufacturer may put Super Short Print cards in hobby only. But a few of my best cards came from retail boxes. Hobby boxes are worth the price if you can get them directly from the manufacturer (Topps, Panini, etc.) but you better be on the website the the minute that series is released because it will be gone within 30 minutes or less. I tried with the 2021 Topps baseball series 1 and had no luck. 79.99 at Topps.com, $150+ on eBay, Amazon, or any online cards shops.
