With many thanks to @Lakesammman for his informative posts,
a true resource on the forums for Samples, and a go-to for me...

Acquired these two this week, a 4.1, and a 4.11

I wonder if ANACS ever produced a "sample" photo certificate.

Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Congrats on both, especially the one with "Sample" shifted to the right - a surprisingly hard sample to find. :+1:

Here's a tough one as well......

"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko.

storing this dual sample slab is also “surprisingly” difficult to neatly store with 18 other PCGS sample slabs in a PCGS box of 20. LOL.

So what exactly is the definition, history, purpose, & allure of a "Sample" slab?

Samples are a way for individuals or company's to familiarize their customers with their products. I find them fascinating, just as I find antique salesman samples fascinating (Red Wing, Sleepy Eye Stoneware, furniture manufacturers, etc). As someone who is a life long coin collector, who likes PCGS products, it's a natural extension of a lifelong interest. Finding a previously unknown PCGS Sample is exciting for me.

Besides, my wife won't like me buying 5-6 figure coins on a regular basis, so it scratches my collecting "itch", for very little money, in-between major purchases.

Here are some of mine, starting with a Christmas gift from my friend @shortnock- an NGC for the 2020 PAN show that didn't happen. The ANACS one is a sample with a sample 'metallic' label we tested before deciding to go with our current design:

You Suck! Awarded 6/2008- 1901-O Micro O Morgan, 8/2008- 1878 VAM-123 Morgan, 9/2022 1888-O VAM-1B3 H8 Morgan | Senior Regional Representative- ANACS Coin Grading. Posted opinions on coins are my own, and are not an official ANACS opinion.

    Nice samples!

I bought a whole box of the Intercept shield samples once. Wanted the box and the 1 unique sample in the box that called out the products that Intercept Shield provides. :D

You should see my collection of ANACS samples. I have no idea how many I have.

Already posted this one in the general NEWPs thread. I don’t consider myself a sample slab collector but the combination of the interesting slab and gold CAC sticker was too cool to pass up. Plus I’ll need a steel cent for my registry set at some point and couldn’t warm up to the idea of buying any old MS-67 widget.
