New to grading question - Tiger Woods Upper Deck 2001?
Hi folks -
Quick bio, stop me if you've heard this one before. I was a long-time collector in the 90's and like many have returned to the hobby as it has grown in recent months. Collected hundreds of Jeff Bagwell cards in the 90's and building up a Mookie Betts collection now.
Anywho, somehow grading has always escaped me. I've never sent a card in to be graded, and the process confuses me. I have two batches of cards that I'm considering grading and want to go with PSA.
First, some personal cards for my collection. A couple of Mookie's and some from my 90's collection. No rush. Don't need to pay a rush premium. Happy to wait months. Should I submit through the PSA site? ($50 per card?) or is there a trustworthy group sub way that makes the most sense economically?
Second, a couple of cards that I think might have some value in the short-term. I have no personal attachment to them and would be willing to sell if they gem. Best example is a 2001 Tiger Woods Upper Deck #1. From an ROI perspective, paying a premium for grading could be worth it. Looks like $200 per the site. Is there a better option?
Thank you!

If you have 20 cards worth less than $200, it may pay to research a Silver Membership. For your cards that you think might have significantly higher values, pictures here are your best bet.
Thank you for your response. Here are photos of the card. I pulled it fresh from a pack. The top right
corner is soft. Do you think it’s a 9? I’m willing to submit if that’s a possibility. Thank you!
The top right corner is soft. Could it still be a 9? I pulled it fresh from a pack this week. Thank you.
It was also the top card on the pack, so hopefully no paper loss. (I ripped some packs this week and the cards were very sticky)
please understand that you could have pulled it from a pack an hour ago. that doesnt make it gem 10.
you are looking at psa 8 w/ todays standards w/ a 50/50 on a 9.
Don't think it has a chance at a 9 with that corner. Has a better chance at a 7.
Thanks y’all. I appreciate your help.
Welcome and Good Luck! Grading is a learning process that you'll soon get the hang of....and, these days patience is definitely a virtue!
Yep, I'm in no rush. I just had these packs lying around and decided to open them, knowing Tiger rookies had some value. I know you aren't guaranteed to pull a pristine card from a pack, but I'm not expert on how much "damage" constitutes a grade demerit.
One lesson I have learned about grading is that if a card looks perfect with sharp corners you are still likely to get a 9. Any issue at all on a card you can kiss a 9-10 good bye. Welcome to the boards and hoping you find some gems.

Awesome!
I think it may be a 7 as well, could come back lower. You really need to look at the corners with a 10x loupe and see if you can find any imperfections. The naked eye really isn't enough. Personally, I wouldn't submit it to PSA.

At what point does a card become Pack-Stale ??
My daughter and I opened 5-6 boxes of these 12-14 years ago Guess I need to dig em out.
