First, these are two totally different coin types. I am providing the juxtaposition to compare a coin that could raise concerns with one less likely. The top coin is the coin won in the recent auction.

  • Before even passing judgment on either of these specific pieces, it should be noted that there are A LOT of modern fake stamps (often on seemingly genuine hosts) of these 1600s-era Brazil and homeland Portugal revaluation marks.

    Yes. I have learned this about the type and it is true about other numismatic material, as well. I try to educate myself and rely upon reputable vendors, but i am no professional. If I was to start coin collecting all over again, I do not think I would touch anything significant unless it was PCGS or NGS. Fortunately, most things that I collect are not that significant.
