Poll: Can you list coins on ebay right now?

rec78rec78 Posts: 5,630 ✭✭✭✭✭

Rant:
Ebay in all their wisdom, forced me to go into the "managed payments" system. I still cannot list coins on ebay to sell. They originally said that I could start listing coins on the Jan. 25. Well, that date has come and gone, then they said Feb.23. I still could not list anything today , I had them call me (about a minute wait). They told me now, that the wait may be indefinite. He said that only certain businesses could list coins. Well that's a lie, because I see a lot of coins listed by people with low feedback. He also said that once everybody is in the "managed payments" system, then I could sell coins again. I asked him "When will that be", he said he did not know.
This pole is anonymus, so you don't have to reveal how you voted if you don't want to. I haven't sold coins in many years and just started to sell coins on ebay again around Oct. of last year. This is very frustrating to me. I wasted half a day getting auction listings ready. I know there are other venues to sell coins, but they don't have near the reach and following of ebay. I told the guy that I would stop buying on ebay until I am able to sell again, and I will. Please take poll, even if you do not want to comment.

I sold one coin on ebay over a year ago, haven't need to or tried to list one since.

I won a couple lots on Jan 28, and the seller could not accept payment. They said it would be a week, then another, then Feb 22-26. A couple days ago I got an invoice and said they could accept now, tried paying a few times and they still can't.

Maybe not being able to list is better than not being able to collect (except for the negatives).

I haven't sold on eBay for more than 3 years. I did just now start a listing and it let me at least start to do a listing with no issues. I did not see if it would let me complete it or actually list it though.

@rec78 I'm curious, where does it stop you in the listing process?

Sold a few items with no issues.

    Got payment.

Signed up for this a few weeks ago.

Not sure if items were already listed, new listings, etc...

Got a few I will list this PM and will update.

I don't have any issue list coins on ebay. In fact I can't even join managed payment even if I want to.

When I click on "list item" This comes up:

It looks like there's a problem with this listing.
    Unfortunately, you can't list this item. When eBay manages payments, there are restrictions on certain types of items that can be sold. See https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/managed-payments-restricted-items-policy?id=5009.{e72364-1166359x}

Okay, thanks. I don't have managed payments, so that is likely the issue.

From what I can tell, people who have been actively selling coins were not required to sign up for managed payments while they were working things out in order to allow for coin sales. Those not selling coins were moved into managed payments and once there, not allowed to list coins- for now, anyway. The coin sellers are being gradually moved into managed payments. I can still list coins for sale and have not yet been moved into managed payments but some sellers here have posted that they have been moved.

I was selling coins and they forced me into managed payments anyways.

No issues - have a listing right now and another scheduled to start Sunday. I'm a small potato and have received no request to move to Managed Payments.

You will, and they will force you into it. They are getting rid of paypal.

I suppose I could list coins and see how that goes but this is what I get for now when I go to managed accounts set up...

We’re not yet ready for you to update your account details. We’ll send you an email and a notification in My eBay when you can get set up.

  • MasonGMasonG Posts: 6,268 ✭✭✭✭✭

On my Seller Hub overview page, it says "You’ve successfully registered for managed payments." I can still list coins.

eBay isn't getting rid of PayPal, they're adding the option to pay in other ways aside from PayPal.

They are getting rid of paypal as the middle man. When I got paid for an auction the money went into paypal. I would then either leave it in paypal to use later or send it to my bank account from paypal. Under managed payments this step is eliminated. You can still use paypal to pay.

The guy said they are allowing some business to sell coins, you must be one of them.

The February 23rd date was for people registered as a business - like myself. You can register as a business if you have zero feedback. It's just the choice you make when you register: business account or personal.

If you have a personal account, they shouldn't have migrated you because you can't list coins until a later date. I forget the date but it is in one of the managed payment threads that already exist.

P.S. You should be able to change your account to "business" and then you can list.

Odd thing happened today. Someone bought something and the payment went through PayPal instead of managed payments. I'm not sure why, but the money ended up there.

The details were in one of the other managed payment threads. One of the forum members with a personal account got an email from eBay.

I found it. It was @Mizzou thread about "Am I a business seller". They told him:

"I just got off the phone with an Ebay's managed payment associate and have some good news for people like myself with Ebay personal accounts. Starting March 9, sellers with personal accounts will be able to list coins and currency."

I thought you hadn't been switched to managed payments yet.

"Successfully registered" isn't the same as switched. As soon as they made the switch that message disappeared and I had a new "Payments" link on the Nav Bar.

No issues here. I sell a lot of coins so they called me several times giving me the rundown. Other than their weird payout system and fee reporting, managed payments seems ok
