I love late die states, especially cuds.
Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Here's one of the larger and rarer cuds in the Liberty Seated Half Dime series,
1853 V-8a, #65 in the "Top 100 Varieties" list.

Typically a bit corroded but fun for its two-sided cuds.

If you like cuds, it is worth checking out the Don Bonser collection being offered this month by Heritage. I am watching a couple of really nice Lincoln cents with cuds, and the collection has many other examples across several denominations.
Last month I picked up this coin off eBay, it's a cull but it was cheap and the damage doesn't impact the error.

"Keep in mind that most of what passes as numismatic information is no more than tested opinion at best, and marketing blather at worst. However, I try to choose my words carefully, since I know that you guys are always watching." - Joe O'Connor
