The tracking updates might be accurate, but also keep in mind that with the recent volume of material going through the mail system that tracking updates have not always reflected reality. The seller might be thinking along these same lines and may want to wait to actually receive the package in question.

How do you know it's damaged if you never received it? The simplest thing is to follow Ebay's direction and file for refund on the 1st of March, especially in today's Postal world, as it may show up after 3 weeks. I've been waiting 10 days for PCGS to receive the single most expensive group of raw coins I ever sent them and I'm a nervous wreck. USPS says shipment delayed but will make it and only lists the day it left the terminal in Charleston, WV and no further info. Good luck and give the guy a chance it may show up.
Different story if damaged, then you simply file a refund and Ebay would not have told you to wait.

    screen shot that tracking info.

then contact the seller via ebay links -> contact seller.

when typing the message cut-n-paste the tracking text THEN add the photo on the message.

be kind and simply ask what he's thinking about doing with it.

Seeing how the tracking is from the 23rd and this is the 23rd. The seller may not even be aware there is an issue.

even if the seller is trying something, just go like it all is true because you will have documented the tracking info in te message and photo attachment... you'll simply win a case if you open it o Mar-1.

Thanks I sent it to him. And will wait for his reply. It's $100 not $10 000 at 10k I would be stressed.

I sold a coin and shipped. Three weeks went buy and the buyer demanded a refund. I said I would if they returned the coin when delivered. I refunded the buyer and two days later the package was delivered. The buyer still has not returned the coin after a month...

Yeah but this is not the case see above tracking information. I would never do that if I had received the package in hand and it was damaged I would have sent it back. But this package is not going to get to my hands. It's been returned by whoever I don't even know.

    Through Ebay? PayPal payment?

If so, they will make you whole no matter what the buyer does.

I don't want to be a jerk but don't want to sit 3-4 weeks for all this to wrap up.

All due respect, but how is he making it a long process?

He has not yet but could was my point. My question is why as the buyer should I wait till he gets the package back that could be 3-4 weeks away why is that my problem as a buyer.

Package has been damaged it is been sent back to him why is that my problem as far as waiting for a full refund? And as mentioned I never received the package in hand never.

In all these cases, both parties should follow the Ebay instructions.

Since you never actually touched the package, I doubt they'll make you wait. But none of this is his fault either so I would hardly neg him if the was a delay, as you seemed to be implying.

I would also add that the tracking message doesn't make it clear whether you were involved in the abortion of the delivery or not.

I know it's not his fault I will not leave negative feedback if I get a full refund. In 9 years I have only ever left 1 negative feedback out of 1500 transactions it is truly a last resort.

just follow through and document. you can't do anything via ebay before Mar-1 anyway. just take it easy. You document and you will win come first week of March.

    and

do not forget that today is the 23rd and that tracking is from the 23rd. give the seller some time to think and respond. you have until mar-1 before you can file on ebay anyway.

I am relaxed was just curious what other people do in this type of situation. It's $100 it is OK I know I will get a full refund just wondering how long people wait to open a case in this kind of situation.

I do exactly what eBay tells me.

And if I have any questions about what happened, I will take full advantage of the time eBay gives me if it is a non-trivial dollar amount. While a buyer can file a chargeback at any time, a refund can not be returned to the seller so I need to be sure of what's going on.

In a case of demonstrated non-receipt, I would just refund the buyer. I've never had an item bounce like that and, frankly, I don't know how I interpret that postal scan. So unless I'm sure that the buyer never handled the package, I'm going to wait until the coin gets back to me if eBay lets me.

I had that happen with a $290 package. eBay paid me the $290. eBay seller protection in action.

Did you voluntarily refund the money or did you wait for the "item not received" case to be filed?

That's what I was trying to ascertain. As I said, I always do exactly what eBay tells me. When the buyer pulled that on me, eBay refunded me the full amount within 24 hours.

It will refund the seller. It's insurance.

The problem I referenced above went through eBay standard international which has $100 insurance on it. The insurance paid me on the missing package in about 36 hours. Then, when the package showed up, eBay stepped in and made me whole in 24 hours.

I know the cynics around here like to moan about eBay and PayPal but they do stand behind their guarantees. I feel like @ErrorsOnCoins . LOL.

That said, this "damaged package" is a little bit of a different animal. Is the coin still in it? Is the coin damaged?

Communication is key. Global shipping covers loss for the seller. Unfortunately I have seen a high percentage of problem claims. One around $400 in Great Britain where the guy said he was away on vacation when the package delivery was attempted and some other flat got the parcel so he wanted a refund from ebay; the other a shipment to Montreal where the buyer opened a chargeback a month after delivery claiming he never got it. This global shipping must be a real headache for ebay and the insurance carriers.

That's happened to me as a buyer. I received a refund and then a week later the coin arrives. I contact the seller to check their address to return the coin and he replies, "YES!" as if he's been screwed several times over the past few weeks.
