Jefferson collectors - Need advice

Hey folks. I am a type collector and am looking for a nice Jefferson. For similar price and eye appeal, which would be a better investment? Same grade in MS66FS or MS67?

FS coins are multiples rarer ... but, I would shoot for at least a FS 67! They can be had fairly cheaper on the more common FS dates like 40-D, etc. .... FS also easy to find on some silver issues, such as 43-D

    RGL,
Thanks for the advice. I want to stay around $100 per coin if possible but could stretch for the right piece. Any advice on where to find these at good prices? David Lawrence has a ton of them. Are his prices typical and realistic? Some of these have been in their inventory a long time.

I agree with RGL stay with the full step coin. I have purchased several coins from David Lawerence - very pleased with service and transaction.

    If you are looking to stay around $100 you may want to consider a 1943D MS67FS or a 1994 SMS MS69FS ( probably $135 - 150).

The 2001P in MS67FS can be obtained for less than $100 as well.

It really depends on the date and many unknowables. Some nickels are
rare without marking and some with full steps. Those which are rare with-
out marking aren't even identified yet in many cases since fewer collect
them. Even after you identify the better values, there is still the question
of what will future collectors desire. I've long felt strike is underrated as
it affects grading. It seems to me that if design detail is missing that it doesn't
much matter if it never appeared on the coin or was worn off. This is, of course,
merely an opinion, and I'm well aware many will never share it. You might con-
sider a mixed set; going for the better value in each case. If this offends your
sensibilities, then just go with what looks better to you.
