Central American Republic 8 reales modified to 8 "escudos"

I came across this "Central America Coin" on eBay today that appears to be an 8 Reales with the R crudely modified into an E, along with some changes to the 8. I wonder if a fraudster in the past intended to gold plate the coin and perhaps modify the date as well?

The apparent age of the flip its in had me wondering if anyone else had seen this particular modification on other Central American Republic 8 Reales and I'm curious what others would speculate regarding the age of the modification.

    LOL at least he did not move the sun to the noon position...
    Way to ruin a coin.
