Now I remember why I stopped subbing 71s...

It was after these two cards both got PSA 7s. After that, I admitted defeat!

Wow, those would be a pair of very high end 7s!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Nice cards. Upper right corner and bottom corners on the top one and upper left on the bottom one is why they are 7’s - albeit very nice ones.
Frustrating at times. I have 600 or so cards sitting on shelves at PSA now. Many 75's and 86 topps football which are both similar to 71's in difficulty. I assume because of the color, but I think there is definitely a tougher standard for those cards, which more or less keeps the 9's and 10's artificially low and people chasing them. I make "mistakes" subbing cards of any year, but those repeatedly let me down where some come back 2 grades lower than I'm expecting. Keep up the good fight man, you will hit a big one, one day !

In my opinion, the extremely minor corner wear they have is totally consistent with tons of 8s you will find on eBay, and nicer than most in every other respect.
Quit subbing 71's years ago when a Baylor/Baker came back as evidence of re-coloration. Pack pulled myself as a kid and would have been a PSA 6 at best. Brutally tough.
Not saying I agreed with the grades - just stating why they did not get 8’s. These two cards should be 8.5’s IMO.
The 71 Rose looks like a solid 9.
Terry Bradshaw was AMAZING!!

KC. First, my favorite was the Rose based on the razor corner. But then the Bench centering did it for me. Beautiful cards - both deserve some bump.
