said it before, i will say it again...

"basketball cards are on a different level"

saying that in a somewhat jokingly manner this time, but head scratcher for sure.

Actually, there’s something charming about it. It shows that those stickers were meant to, well, be stuck on something and on a box meant to hold cards with “86 Topps” written on it to boot. A period piece to be sure, maybe could be considered card art?

    /sarcasm.

    What a market!

I absolutely agree. I think it is super cool and I certainly could see it selling, but not for $390. Maybe $10-20 as art, a period piece, etc...

All I can think about is who bought it and why? I was a senior in HS when that set came out and although I was mainly a baseball card collector, I did buy some of the packs. Not enough sadly and when I found out in the early 90s that they were on fire, I dug out what I had and discovered that I had just about everyone worth while EXCEPT Jordan! WTF!!?? I did have 3 Jordan stickers though. Put them back and "forgot" about them for the most part. The recent sales of the stickers has me thinking it might be time to try to sell them. I never bought them with the intention of selling, but if people are paying $300+ for an 800 count card box with some stickers stuck to it, maybe it is time. I am also not a fan of grading cards, but if I were to sell, it seems having them graded would be the smart move. That means they will probably continue to sit in a box in my house instead of being sold! Call me dumb, but that is just the way I approached collecting from the start.

I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

this kinda brings up a good point that i had actually not even thought about...what if mom had thrown away all your cards in the trash or taken them to goodwill when you moved out. what if you randomly were searching one day and recognized your box, w your handwriting and what's left of your childhood collection that you stuck on your prized box that the trash man kept from way back when? what would you bid on that?

and to just the regular bidders, if they know what they are doing, there's a couple psa 1s or "a's" there.

you just never know w/ these type head scratchers and anomalies. i've definitely seen weirder things transpire or things purchased for display purposes.
