Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer

Thinking of having this graded. Any thoughts? I got it in a pack back in 1986 and immediately safeguarded it as I did with all the star players I got back then I had no idea it might gain so much value. I know there are people here that know a heck of a lot more than I do about grading, so curious what it might get. Not sure if I should just keep it or sell it off.
Thanks.

Card is legit, I do have concerns with the bottom from being in the screw down for so long. That white on the bottom border is my concern. It does need to be sent in

You need to carefully get it out of that screwdown and hope no color gets stuck to it from being overly compressed for so many years.

  • Yes thanks, done. Color and clarity seem good as there was space between the facing of the card and plastic. Would you recommend a new protective casing?

Um, I'm no expert, but something seems off on one of the colors I focus on for this card ...

If it's real, get it graded for protection and an approximate value. If it's fake, tear it up.

  • Thanks. I do plan to have it graded. Would you go with PSA or Beckett? I do know there are fakes out there on the internet, but I've had this since 1986. I may keep it anyway as I treasure my cards, but it would be good to know the value if I want to insure my cards.

PSA. If you got it out of a fleer pack in '86, it'll be fine

  • Reading TSA policies, it seems I have to declare a value as the grading price is linked to this. Any suggestions or tips on this? I don't mind spending a few hundred dollars on it, but to spend a grand or more seems a bit extreme for just one card which I'm not sure what grade it would receive.

Go with the lowest level you can get away with. If it grades higher, they’ll contact you and let you know they’ll need to up charge.

Send it in! 4, 5 doesn’t matter....nice card, glad you saved it.

Manage your expectations for a high grade.

  • Thanks all. I am sending it in and probably going with the 200 or 500 dollar option for grading. If it's graded higher I guess they will contact me. Next question though. What's the best holder to put it in? Obviously I'm dumping this old plastic thing, and is it best to send it in registered mail? If I do decide to sell it is Ebay the best way? Sorry for so many questions, but you all have a lot of knowledge on this.
