1970's complete sets

I have a run of 1970-1973, 1975-1979 Topps baseball card sets. I love having them around because I can say I have the complete sets. All are in near mint condition or better. The problem is even though I love having them, I never open them to look at them. I just have valuable boxes sitting in a cabinet. I am a collector and hate selling because I am afraid I will have seller's remorse one day. I do enjoy a trade now and then though. I look at my individual cards all the time. I ask my wife and she says sell, sell, sell. I was just curious if others ever feel this way and if they would trade their sets for high profile singles.

If I’m not willing to put a set in pages or top savers i get rid of it.

I will die a set collector. I literally derive as much enjoyment from looking at a 1974 Chuck Goggin as a ‘52 Mantle.

Yes, looking forward to selling stuff I never look at and getting something I will. I'm honestly not sure why I ever bought some of the stuff except to try to do a "Topps set run" that doesn't really bring me any joy. I guess I had big plans of putting everything into binders and pages one day to be able to view easily, but I don't even enjoy baseball these days like I once did. I'll probably keep a couple 80s sets that I have memories of opening packs of, but most everything else needs to move on.

To be honest I wouldn't do that, at least not from a financial perspective. I've noticed the prices of sets(especially all raw) have not appreciated at the same price as high end PSA graded singles. So, you would be selling your stuff at a discount IMO to pay high end prices for a single. If your sets are nice enough you could do a set break or send some in to be graded and then sell them. Just my 2 cents, if you don't enjoy them any longer though, then your decision is easy.

I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

My sets in storage boxes just from a space savings reasons. I’d love to put them all in binders but would have to take over more space in the house and not willing to spend the marital capital to do that. I can’t imagine getting rid of them - completing sets via ripping packs and sifting through common boxes at shows was the staple of my youth. One goal within reach for me is to have every Topps base set since I’ve been alive. Missing several junk years and haven’t gotten around to it!

I had 1968,1971 thru 1979 complete sets in binders and sold the 1968, 1971 and 1972 sets in the Spring. I bought 3 cards with the proceeds... a 1986 Jordan PSA 7, 2011 Trout update PSA 10, and a 2000 Brady Bowman Chrome PSA 9. I definitely felt some remorse when I sold those sets but those 3 cards have absolutely caught on fire and my remorse is completely gone. It’s also much easier for my wife and son to sell the 3 cards if something happens to me.

My two favorite seventies sets are 75 and 78 so I put them in penny sleeves and then card savers',
this was before card savers got so expensive. I hate binders is why I did it that way.

No love for 1974? That is one of my favorite's of the decade.

I love the 1974 design. I just never got to that year. I would complete a set then focus on another part of the collection. When I finish that part of the collection I would go back to another year to complete.

    Just curious ...
Which set do you consider "the nicest?"
What does your 1971 set look like?
Were they built year of issue or assembled "over the years"
Do you like centered cards over o/c cards?

Just curious if in fact they are offered for sale....
