Insurance Dilemma Gretzky Rookie Card

  • Great card. I am sending mine off to PSA soon. I agree with Professor Puck in that we should not get too paranoid about the worst case scenario. Registered mail is extremely secure and in the end it is a card. If something crazy happens and the post office goes up in flames so be it. I'm sure they will give me some money. To be honest I pay enough in damn insurance and there is not a damn chance in hell I will be insuring a bunch of cards too. Sending in my Gretzky and Jordan 86 Fleer next and if they come back at a 7 or better like yours I just may sell them and invest in solid dividend stocks. I love my cards, but in the end they are just cards.

Is not the same 10grams of 18kt gold that an 18 kt gold ring Cartier 10 grams.
Years before grading was something about 15% to 25%of the value item graded. Today, grading is 80% or more of the value of the item.

Well, on average the Gretzky goes for $3,728.95, so it's more like 10% than 80%.

On another note, has anyone else noticed the high number of new posters lately who have nothing to do but complain about PSA? Or maybe they're alts.

  • Congratulations on a Great looking card. I am glad that your anxiety has ended. I will more than likely be sending one of these off as well. My reservations and planning have has been a little more trying as I have several cards that have more value than this. Mailing and insuring are part of it along with compiling and subbing under the correct tiers. I have been looking to present my cards to PSA in person at a show. That does not seem to be an option thanks to Rona. What is in my favor here is that I am in no rush to get them graded or sell them.

I don’t think PSA accepted in person submissions even prior to Rona if I’m most mistaken. Someone correct me if that’s wrong.

At certain shows you could hand them in and get them graded onsite. Boston show a couple years ago offered this service.
