Alexis Lafreniere Clear Cut - PSA Sent Card Back

I just got back my first graded PSA card and to my disappointment the card wasn't actually graded. The "grade" on it was "MINSIZERQ". After doing a basic Google search, I guess this is the grade they give cards that don't meet the minimum size requirements. I am so frustrated right now because this card came from a sealed hobby box of 2020 Upper Deck Series 1 and is an extremely rare card to pull. I tried calling PSA and got a recording that said they've had too many calls today so it told me to call back another day and then it hung up. I tried contacting Upper Deck because if I pulled this card from a freshly sealed pack and PSA won't even grade it, then I would consider it a defective product. Upper Deck told me to email them my details and they would see what they could do. But the customer service representative said that even if I sent my card in to them for replacement, they wouldn't send back the same card, it would be a random one.

Can somebody help me understand what my options are? I didn't trim the card, I literally pulled it from a fresh pack, instantly put it into a sleeve, then in a card saver and paid for Express PSA service (which is supposed to be funded). Here are some screenshots of the card:

Wass is possibly miscut at the factory? Did you compare it to another card from the set?

  • Looking more into the grade, it looks like "N6" is the reason code and on the PSA site it says "PSA will also not grade items that do not meet the minimum size requirement ".

It looks like a normal card to me and fits normally into a sleeve. Is there any option to get it replaced for the same exact card?

  • I also just measured the card and it's exactly 3.5" x 2.5".

N6 means they don't think it was trimmed, but doesn't fall within 2.5x3.5" +/- 1/64" variance that PSA allows. It would say EVID OF TRIM (or similar?) if they thought it was actually trimmed. The prior does not get charged a grading fee (only return shipping), while the latter does.

ETA: I've had some cards take up to 3 trips to get holdered after N6, but most eventually do.

    Just resub. It happens.

  • It looks like after doing a closer measurement (now that my frustration levels have subsided lol), it looks like it's about 1/32" of an inch smaller than 2.5" width.

I'm going to send an email to Upper Deck, so we'll see what comes from it. I appreciate the help!

Don’t bother with UD. There are tons of cards that are 1/32 short is slabs, send it back in and it will get a grade.

You say you were charged for an N6? That shouldn’t happen. Definitely double check that. And as others say, send it right back in. And again after that if necessary. It will eventually grade, I’d wager. Just takes patience and postage fees. And don’t bother with manufacturer. You’ll get nowhere fast with that.

  • I'm not sure why would you even consider getting UD involved. As far as I'm aware, they've done nothing wrong. They made no guarantee what someone else's opinion of the card would be. Sucks that PSA won't grade it based on PSA's standards/opinion, but UD is under no obligation to meet the standards set by someone else.

  • Honestly, just resub. They'll slab it next time.

  • Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. I figured that UD would at least look at the situation and potentially swap it, but if not then it is what it is. I got my hopes up a bit much and that's my fault because I'm lucky to have even pulled the card. I appreciate all the advice and feedback!

I ended up reading up more on it and it looks like I was only charged for shipping to and back, which totaled about $55 because of the value and insured shipping. That was a mistake at first I though that it was being graded as "Trimmed" so I originally was pretty frustrated. But once I cooled down and started reading up more on it, it was an N6 which doesn't charge like you said.

Other than shipping costs, you basically get a Free Roll, and get to send it in again and again. Ideally send it with other cards at the same level in the same submission so you don't always take the shipping hit.

I wonder if you used PC Sportscards, if Jewcer would just keep re-subbing the card for you rather than ship it back to you each time it came back N6?
