What is the difference between: 2001 Topps, Chrome, Opening Day, and Gold when looking at the exact same card/number?? I'm more of a junk era/vintage guy so anything after '93 is foreign to me. Thanks!!

Honestly? A way for Topps to make more money.
LOL. Gotcha...and figured that was the underlying factor...but should one be "worth more" than the other??
I'm finishing out my Ripken PC collection and when i went to get 2001 Topps #1 the prices are all over the place.
2001 Topps should be what you're familiar with.
Chrome is a shinier product, with Refractors and other parallels.
Opening Day is a gimmick set for players who started on Opening Day that season. Topps was usually pretty lazy and just added the Opening day foil to the front of what looks exactly like their base product.
Gold are typically a scarcer parallel of the base card, some years serial numbered.
To complete a PC, you should "need" all of them (or at least that's what Topps hope is)
LOL...ok, this is perfect...thank you! To your point, it's the same card (number and all) just a different stamp on each. Although the gold Ripken i bought is numbered. I feel my PC is now complete, regardless of what Topps tried to sell me!!
Thanks!!!
Go with the Gold.
I failed to buy the '93 Jeter Gold and it took off like a rocket.
Darn that little gold stamp

If you want to see what's going on right now on the Topps web? Check out this LINK.
The amount of product just Topps is producing - now - is astronomical!
In 2020, just to name some product, Topps produced Bowman, Topps (base brand), Turkey Red, Gypsy Queen, Heritage, Inception, Opening Day, Tribute, Museum, Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, Sterling.....and on and on....
Plus they produced incredibly "HIGH" end products limited to 60 or 100 sets @ 25 to 30K per!
E.g. Ex-ML'er Phil Hughes opened a case of Topps Transcendent @ 25 or 30K? LINK
Check out youtube: if you ever want to spend some time seeing what's out there? I found it's a great way to see what's in the product with respect to what one can "pull" and decide if the "juice is worth the squeeze?"
I recommend you watch a few box rippers on youtube like Jabs and Layton Sports Cards - if you subscribe to their web, you will see all the stuff they have done in the past whatever time you want?
