Lol

In the current PWCC auction two Topps Lemieux rookies in PSA 9 are currently bid up to the 500 range. The Topps PSA 8 Lemieux rookie is bid up to 1825. Should I laugh out loud, or is there a reasonable explanation for this ? Or an unreasonable one would suffice too. I know we are in a crazy market now, but that’s a head scratcher.

No. Please explain why a PSA 8 that usually sells for 600-900 is bid up to 1825 already ? Has the market just gone nuts ?

No, just people who think that auction results actually determine value.

Great point. How should value be determined ? That’s a tough one. Don’t think I’m smart enough to know that answer.

I mean if person x and person y pay 50 and 60k for a card and then person z pays 65k two months later, shouldn’t we assume that the next person should bid at least 60-65k to get the next one ?

That PSA 8 was blessed by PWCC with an 'E' grade. Guaranteed to go for a premium

Ok. Thanks. Is it usually double premium ?
Because it’s already over double and even triple the price.

This statement can be said about many many cards right now

I look at demand on several sales and decide if I think the card/player is popular enough to sustain demand.

People should also understand that any auction can be manipulated by the seller or one of his friends..............you don't HAVE to keep bidding if you think the card has exceeded it's "value".

I mean if person x and person y pay 50 and 60k for a card and then person z pays 65k two months later, shouldn’t we assume that the next person should bid at least 60-65k to get the next one ?

    Short answer, no.

Longer answer, still no. Look at Mark McGwire cards in about June of last year, they went nuts. Now they have dropped. Many cards increased at that time and have dropped a little (or a lot) but the bottom really dropped out on his cards.

I see the PWCC stickers are also being mentioned. If the card is "better" than the assigned grade thanks for pointing that out. I'll decide for myself if I agree.

The "hobby" has been transformed into something different. Now it's kind of like the stock market for some.

Don't invest any more than you are prepared to lose.

Funny how many sales records come out of that one sales venue isn’t it? On so many cards. Mattingly. Henderson. Rice. Montana. An SGC 7 Mantle now at $30,000 that historically sells around 6k. It’s brazen. Owners happy to pay a relatively small fee to see a new valuation on cards they’re holding several of— it’s the go-to play these days in cards.

My wife is a home appraiser. She always says something is worth what the SECOND person will pay. One person overpaying = stupid money. Two people = a new baseline.

Well there are quite a few people who have bought and sold 2011 Mike Trout Topps PSA 10 rookies from $2500 in November to $7500 in February. 50 have sold on eBay in February and the month isn’t half over.
