Recently, PCGS Banknote had this beautiful Gold Certificate come through the grading room.
The submitter explained that she had just found the banknote in an old book from her husband’s father. The very first issues of 1882 had a hand signature, but this last variety incorporated a facsimile signature into the printing plate, with the engraved countersignature of Thomas C. Acton.

Great note and article @PCGS_SocialMedia. Is there a reason you seldom display the back of the note ?
For the article itself this is usually a choice by the author for what images make it in. We do have both sides of the note on our Instagram right now if you'd like to see it!
Thanks.
Magnificent!
Great linework - this is one of those notes where the more you look, then the more fine details you see.
Thank you for sharing this rare art
Imagine being the lucky ******* that found that in a book.
Cool note!

Any idea as to it's worth? The article stated they contacted the submitter and told her it was worth in the five digit range, but that's a substantial range....
Yes, easily a five figure note. https://currency.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=56+790+231&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&Nty=1&Ntt=Fr.1189a&limitTo=all&ic4=KeywordSearch-A-K-071316
