PSA 9 Gretzky OPC rookie vs. PSA 9 Jordan Fleer rookie

Which one is higher 10 years from now ?

Jordan’s are around 70 now and Gretzky around 80. That’s a guess because private sales do happen.

With a pop of under 100 the Gretzky should be more, but of course there are more buyers for Jordans than Gretzkys.... If that Gretzky 10 had sold last week and not in December, it probably would have gone for 2 million based on the rise in card prices in the last 30 days!

gretzky opc 9 simply because it's the creamier of the crop. only 2 10s as of now. that won't change much.

I hear ya. This is crazy. I paid $500 for a 1985 opc hockey PSA 9 pack two weeks ago, and with the slow mail, by the time it arrived those same packs are selling for $1000.

Gretzky PSA 9 by a mile. I actually think in 10 years the 1979 Topps Gretzky in PSA 9 will sell for the same as the Jordan in PSA 9 and the OPC will outstrip it by at least 3x.

There is an OPC PSA 9 at Heritage this month and a Topps PSA 9 Gretzky at Goldin this month. I believe both are going to set new records for the grade.

there was perhaps an avg opc 9 that sold last month for $85k on the bay. can confirm it was legit.

A PSA 9 Jordan rookie in the same auction ended at $68,880.

The Heritage 79 OPC Gretzky PSA 9 is at $93,000 (with BP) with 15 days to go.

this makes the 51 bowman mantle 8 at $615k in the same auction still look undervalued, imo.

and this is up from the $125k last documented sale on vcp.

the world wide demand for Jordan is huge compared to Gretzky though.

Did Joe Henniger's PSA 9 Gretzky rookie sell on ebay ? I think his listing price was like 147,000 ? Can't remember.

No doubt about it, but Gretzky has held 61 league records since he retired, and only 1 of those has fallen.
None of the GOAT's compare to what Gretzky has done in his sport.

The other thing is that many of the 86 fleer Jordan's do not have the printing imperfections that OPC Gretzky's do.
Whenever you find a dead centered OPC Gretzky with a dead centered oil drop, and perfect registration with no hickeys on the front or back, you buy it. You don't even think twice. Doesn't matter if it's a PSA 2, 3, or 4. Get it. This is what I'm talking about. You can find 86 Fleer Jordan's all day long that look sweet, but you rarely see Gretzky's like this one below.

I hear you. Gretzky was a great player. With cards It is all about demand though. think of all the low pop 1952 commons that are more rare than the Mantle. true, they are more rare, but demand is out of this world for the Mantle even though there may be more examples.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I think the scarcity of Gretzky copies in PSA 9 makes up for the difference in demand between Jordan and Gretzky. There are 89 OPC PSA 9 and 127 Topps PSA Gretzky RCs vs 2768 Jordan Fleer #57 RCs.

Gretzky is out to a huge lead in the first month of the 10 year challenge...
