PWCC and high end cards

I am looking to sell a high end card.

If I sell through PWCC is there still the possibility of returns, future credit card chargebacks, or similar?

I am leaning toward an auction house. Which auction houses have private sales? I am considering that route as well.

I used to be a strong advocate of PWCC. I personally would go elsewhere these days, and you can do some research to make your own decision. I think you’d probably be safe from returns, etc. though, as I believe they still handle all of that.

If you are looking for alternatives, consider REA or Love of the Game.

I have sold some high priced items (over 100k) through PWCC both via their monthly auction and using the PWCC Vault Buy it Now listings with no issues whatsoever. As a seller, I wouldn't worry at all about using PWCC.

I am aware of the hate that PWCC along with other companies get but if you are looking to sell, I have used them in the past and had zero issues. If you do have above average looking cards, there above % sticker also usually helps the sale.

I’ve enquired twice via eBay ask a question to PWCC the past three weeks about a five figure card for sale through their vault with no response to my question.

Does either probstein123 or PWCC offer lower commission rates for high end high demand cards
such as a psa 9 MJ rookie?

Curious....ebay stores haves a max final value fee of $350 or $250

Anybody have guess about what rate ebay charges those guys?

PWCC lowest rate is 8% fee for sales over $5000. Doesn't appear there is a cap.

PWCC or Probstein123 is the best way to go. Lot of jokers on eBay selling yourself.

An auction house said not to have a Reserve. Is this another way of saying, "We want a guaranteed Buyers Premium."

Stay away from Probstein, if he loses your item, he says talk to the lawyer!

Pretty much every auction house I know will help with a private sale of a unique item if they know a buyer and it is worth their time. That's not to say that is the best option. By high end are you talking $2k or $200k? Modern or pre-war? Common vs special item (i.e. 86 fleer Jordan or w600 Cobb). Auctions can be good to create competition and you can't blame the auction house for not wanting to put in a reserve as it can dissuade bidding and they will put out the expenses to advertise without making anything in return. Plus, it simply looks bad when an item doesn't sell.

I used PWCC before the recent unpleasantries and had no complaints.

I contacted PWCC and asked them if If I sell through PWCC is there still the possibility of returns, future credit card chargebacks, or similar?

I was surprised by the answer.

"You are not held responsible in situations like this> This is one of the perks with using out services. "

Does this mean all sales are final?

You asked them, got the official answer, and are still questioning "Yes"?

I had sent stuff to Probstein on several occasions, all was fine. Then my last consignment order he sent the fund to the wrong Paypal address and wouldn't fix it. Literally 2 years later, I finally got my $1800. I agree, he has that screw you mentality.

I follow the 1986 Topps Tiffany PSA 10 sales since I have a few in my collection. Currently, there are 7 on ebay for sale, and 6 (1 auction, 5 in the vault) are under PWCC. That is an amazing stat. Is this the case for all high end RC? Hard to say.

    To follow up here.
When I asked both companies about discount commissions I included cards I want to sell now
    1986 fleer 57 Jordan PSA 9 50-50-50-50
2003 Topps chrome Lebron PSA 10
    1982 Topps L Taylor PSA 10
Prizm RC of basket ball in demand in PSA 10
    Possibly $125K
I even gave probstein a link to look at all my psa registry to see what I have for possible future sales

    Probstein never replied.
PWCC said they stick to a 500 card minimum.

IMO inflexible ruled doesn't do anyone any good.

So I could send PWCC 500 cards worth $10K and would take a lot of work to sell for $10K
or a few that will fly out the door..........

    Jay0781,
Honestly, right now $125k isn't going to move the needle. Look at the overall value of the cards listed in their PWCC Vault ebay account.

I would think that you are better off looking at Goldin or some of the auction houses that get a buyer's premium if you want reduced fees. With the rapid appreciation in cards the last 14 months, $125k worth of cards just isn't as impressive as it used to be. Which is a crazy thing to say but still the stone cold truth.

$125k is not going to get you preferential treatment from PWCC

According to their website, there is a discount on the commission on cards under $50 if you have 250 of them in one auction, and a bigger discount if you send more than 500. No discounts on higher priced cards. The way things are going now, I'd send at least 600 cards to get the lowest rate as there is a reasonable likelihood that 100 of your cards would pop over the $50 mark.

I've done business with mile high auctions. Got 100% of what my cards sold for. They charged me zero sellers fee.

As much crap as PWCC has been thru and it's plenty.......I would still sell thru them 9 out of 10 times and I have been pleased with the smoothness and quick response .... for the same card they always have more followers vs. other sellers. I sell high end stuff and that is their bread and butter... 8% is pretty competitive as well. Just my experience.

I saw that 4SC is also accepting consignments now.

REA is a rock solid option for higher end auction items and very reputable, too.

I would equate PWCC with the "slime ball" defense attorney most folks loathe until they are defending your life ... and then it's Thank God for PWCC.

First let me say I collect for fun. Do I want to give up 500 cards? Probably not. Yes I know what I have is really nothing special to the big dogs and there are many collections out there far nicer than mine. I ma not looking at this from a "me" point of view but from a consigner viewpoint. Why take in say 500 cards worth $25K that will take time, work and effort for a discount vs very little work for the same results. Also get a high demand consignment vs not getting anything.
I don't trust 4SC but thanks for suggestion. A while back they sent me 2 cards of same grade that were very badly off centered. I had ordered 50-50 cards and could see where they crossed out those cards from my invoice and replaced them with different cert 's. No answer to my emails.

Curious and a question. How would someone send higher dollar cards? I believe USPS and UPS have a $5K max limit for insurance. USPS could take a month now to go from NY to say Portland.

    Thank you all

USPS registered mail goes up to 50k. It’s slow sometimes, but it’s the safest.

  • blurryfaceblurryface Posts: 5,136 ✭✭✭✭✭

bite the bullet and just ship it to whoever overnight via fedex.

why go thru the agony of waiting on the usps and all the mishaps and routes it could take?

get it there, get it off the plate instead of risking a month of agony and perhaps missing the consignment deadline.

if you're worried about insurance, maybe call and ask whatever company to send you a label off of their account. just deduct the cost from your tally? they may even offer to do it for free considering.

You're still misunderstanding. Cards that go for $5000 and up have far, far smaller commissions than even the discount rate for 500 inexpensive cards.
