Merc collectors - check out the Heritage auctions

I was just on the Heritage site and they have some really nice coins up for auction. I am guessing you need to be at ANA to win, but nice coins nevertheless. The 28-S in 66 has my eye.

Not a FB Coin. I was Really Suprised that the Coin was on the Whitlow Site as They Only have FB Mercs For Sale. Maybe They are Changing thier ways !!! If they Do it would Be Good for Merc Collectors IMO. Heck They even have a NGC Coin on the Site. It s the First One I have Seen there.

Mike called Me on the Coin, the 28s, He seems to be a Real Nice Guy and Easy to Talk too.image He said He Bought Many Coins in Chicago and they will start showing up Next Week on the Site. Can't wait even though I'm Broke Again.image

          Ken,

Broke again......dont I just know it. I just won a heritage auction for a 39-S MS66 FB and I bought a 35-S MS66 FB from JJ teaparty. I usually talk to mike at Whitlow when I buy from them.He really is a nice guy to talk to. Did I hear right? You have a type set started ?

A Very Meager Type Set is Started. Cheap High Grade Common Stuff with Intentions of the Real Coins being XF. Needed something to Keep Interest Up as the Mercs that are Needed are Hard to Find.image They, the Mercs, are Out there but so far the Ones I have seen I do not Like. I know Picky,Picky.image

            Ken,

I think the 28-S is in my price range. I am guessing it will go for about $350 +/- a couple of dollars. My issue is that the floor bidders will probably win it. Oh well, such is life.

Anyway, there is also a VERY nice 20-D up for auction. Of course these are all no bands coins. I have to save my pennies to see if I can jump on one.

As another thought, I bought a VERY nice 34-D 66 No bands coin from JJ Teaparty last week.. Great service and a super coin. I will have to teach myself to use my scanner better so I can show you that one.

Good luck in your search. Some nice coins in a variety of price ranges.

This must be the week for 1928-S Mercs. I just bought one in MS66 non-FB. Rick, if you can pick one up for around $350, it would be a heckuva deal. The CU price is $780, and I usually consider 75% of that to be realistic, which would put it at $585. I paid well below that (but more than $350) for mine. Just waiting for it to arrive. I did get a '23-S MS64 in the mail today. It has clash marks in front of Liberty's nose and forehead that the Mint apparently tried to get rid of by polishing the die There's a fair amount of polish lines in the obverse fields. I'll photograph it in the morning, and then add it to my set, so it will be a red Friday for me. I'm nearly broke, too, but I'm still going to a show on Friday, and hoping to find something good. Coins seem to be a better place to put money than the stock market these days.

I'd like to see Whitlow carry some early date non-FB Mercs. I think some of them are underpriced, or some FB coins are overpriced. There are dates that so seldom appear that I'm happy to have them in any grade above MS63.

            Jim:
Maybe after Mike takes into Account how long the 28S I bought was on the Whitlow Site they just Might Consider Putting some NB Early Dates into Inventory. I believe the 28S was there Less than a Day.
I believe Rick is being a Little Conservative on his estimate also. I bought My MS66 Coin 2+ Years Ago and a Steady Climb has Resulted since then. If a Dealer had the Coin at a Show the $350.00 price just might be Legit but seems how its in a Auction heck who knows. My Guess is $450.00 to $500.00. We Will See.image
                  Rick:
The 20D would be a Cool NB Coin to have. Very Low Pop but Also a Steep Price Tag. Out of My League for Sure.
What Did You Folks think of the Heritage Scans ?? They Looked Terrible to Me. Is My Monitor Goofed Up ?

EDIT: Also bought a MS67 Coin Today that I have been Looking to buy for awhile. 1945P is the Date. Coin was Cheap,Real Cheap. It sort of Blows Me away that You can Buy a Finest Graded Coin for $31.00 or $34.50 with Shipping. The Scan showed Partial Bands. Will be Interested to see how close the Scan is to the Real Deal.

Did you notice lot number 7655 a 20D in MS66 FB? Looks like it has a slightly rotated reverse. Nice coin.
