87-88 Fleer Grading. Thoughts?

With the surge in prices, I’m planning on adding some 1987 Fleer Basketball to my next bulk order. With the exception of Barkley, I’m assuming 8’s on the cards below, and anything better being a bonus. The 3 commons are fliers for possible 9’s. Any thoughts on whether I should leave any out are appreciated.

I am NOT planning on submitting the Barkley, as I believe it will get a PD qualifier for the printing speckles to the left and right of his head, but maybe I should just take a shot with it and specify NQ. I’m planning to sell these, and I’m thinking the Barkley may sell better raw.

  • The grading strategies is all pretty new to me ... so based on the value of the price guide value of these cards you are thinking the return on investment would be there if you having them graded when you try to sell, but if you have a print defect on Barkley, the grade would be low enough that it wouldn't be worth the grading investment vs what you could get for it raw. Just making sure I follow correctly.

I'm trying to figure out the optimal approach/strategy to moving some of my old 70s/80s stash....

Correct. For the Barkley specifically, if they do assign a PD, or just knock it down a couple grades, I’d likely be looking at 6 or 7 value. If I post it raw, there’s a good chance someone hoping for a 9 may jump, or just someone putting together a raw set with good centering and sharp corners.

I have been working on the set. I did the HOF set first. Now I'm 18 cards away from the complete set. All PSA 9 cards. Nance is one of the cards I need.

I would sub the Barkley.... This one looks pretty similar to yours just sold PWCC...

And if this one didn''t get a PD, then I doubt your's would..

Yep, I’ll give it a shot. For $12 it’s worth the gamble. Of course it’ll probably be 2022 before I see it again.

    And worth twice as much!

Include the Barkley. I don't think you will see a PD on that one.

    Thanks,

I have a raw set with the stickers that was bought in back in 1988, would love to send some in to be graded but don't want to wait that long. Looks like these raw sets haven't had quite the run up yet? Thoughts on selling it now, holding, or sending some off and waiting x# of months for them to come back?
