My First Ebay Item Up For Sale, Any Suggestions!!!

I need to plug My Ebay Item, if the winning bidder comes from CU, I'll pay S / H / I.

This is my first Ebay item for sale, I have bought many with no problem, I hope being a seller is just as easy. If any one has any good suggestion, I'd appreciate them.

  • that looks fine to me...if you have a high opening bid to start...then there is a smaller chance of getting a bidding war (where 2 or more people really want it and end up paying more than they normally would have)...the bidding wars are where the real money is made...for you next item i would start off with a smaller opening bid, ESPECIALLY if it is something like a Cal Ripken auto. You won't have to worry about the card being sold cheap...all of his autos sell well. But, if you have a plyer that doesn't sell particularly well, then i would have your opening bid a little higher to ensure you get what you want out of the card.

    hope this helps!

  • Yep. If you have a nice card, start the bids at 99 cents and there will be a nice little bid war image

  • You always want to include what you accept as payment in the description. I can't tell you how many cards I've wanted to bid on but didn't because the seller didn't have Paypal as a type of payment they took, only to find out after the auction ended in an email that the seller takes Paypal. Another thing you want to look into is HTML. It's a breeze and makes auctions look much more professional.

Nice card though! And you got a bid! Sweet! image

Anyone know where to get some pointers on HTML?

Thanks for the great suggestions, Mike

  • Looks good to me. Make sure to specify exactly what you will and will not accept. For your protection, I suggest making insurance manditory. Ending the auction in the evening will increase snipe action.

Ok just read a big article over ebay two days ago. Here are some tips. List as many syn. as possible. Don't use abbrevations that aren't used by most people. They suggest you try to use common abbv. and the whole word in the description. End the auction on a weekend and during the evening. Take into fact what time zone the rest of the US is in when it will end. Make sure the auction lasts at least a week. Don't start or end the auction on a holiday. Most people are away from their computer on these days. Offer free basic shipping if the bid gets over a certain amount that you list on your auction. (I usually do this to increase bids and it seems to work).Think of your auction as a buyer. List everything that you think that you would want to know. List the condition of the card even if you show a picture of it because sometimes images are distorted. Tell things such as corner condition, certaining, edges, color, and surface wear. Make sure you add a picture. A picture usually adds 11.8% to the value of your auction. Stay away from reserves. Many people do not like bidding on auctions with reserves. Also would suggest accepting as many different payment options as possible. Paypal billpoint checks, mo, credit cards, whatever you can. You should also include shipping costs as well as how it will be shipped. Tell them that you will send in penny sleve, top loader, sealed between cardboard, packaged inside bubble envelope to insure that they get the highest quality of card possible.

  • I disagree with the low start Mike, start it whatever you are hoping to get out of it, if no one has bid on it by the last day, edit your listing and change the price back to a price 9.99 or lower and cancel your auction, you will have only lost $.30 cents, then you can relist your item at a low price if you want. If you list it too low, you may lose out like I did. Sold my Gerald Wallace Playmakers TripleOvertime 1/50 for $51 when another sold for $65 and it wasn't his jersey number or 50/50. Ebay is just a game of chance, but if you don't want to lose something for cheap, use a reserve or start the auction at a price you want. You might get screwed otherwise and people will snipe your auction at the end.

Mike, here are a couple of tips, when typing your description use this: <h3> before the description with no space, and end your description with this </h3>, once again, no space. It will make the font a little bigger and bolder, like this: Auction Example
    In review: <h3>description</h3>
Also, I would send this card priority mail, insured with a tracking #. Use a priority mail videotape box (free at PO), some bubble wrap, and newspaper, or stryofoam peanuts. You don't want a card of this value in a bubble mailer> Good Luck, STEVE.
