Ebay Gripe: "Private Listing"

I really hate this when sellers use this - I don't trust them at all and have noticed that this is at least sometimes used as a screen for the seller to bid on his own lots, and that then these coins have a tendency to then come up again a bit later on. Not transparent. Ordinarily I would say vote with your feet but occasionally these selllers have lots of interest that are scarcer on the supply side (if not the demand side).

    I usually do not even notice it until I win (or not). My understanding is that all it does is protect the privacy of bidders?

    It does, but IMO is used as a vehicle to protect the seller quite often.
