Excel spreadsheet instead of tables. what do you guys think?

My accountant suggested using an excel spreadsheet instead of tables in word.
However, I have NO idea how to use it and do it. I sort of know how to use and do tables.
Currently, I am setting up my collection in Tables, from 1cents to Silver dollars and misc.
have done the cents and Nickels, all tables....There are several hundred of coins already in each respective table and I must say it is not so nice.
Was told to stop that and go excel.
what do you guys use and what does it look like for coins ???
Can someone please post a page for me to see what it looks like?
