Bust half fans huge hoard of 1815/2 Halves just hit the market. what will this do to prices?

Not sure how many of yall seen this but a group of 30 or so 1815/2 bust halves just hit the market. I wont list them all but some of these examples are super solid and havent been on the market. Crazy to see 5% of all survivors hit the market at once.

What do yall think of this hoard? will this depress prices?

Maybe not the best strategy to list them all at the same time.
Usually people will list one or two at a time, and it will take awhile to sell them all.
Yeah I saw that too. I was like ‘wow’.
It’s also possible this is him releasing them slowly.

7 threads on page one is a bit excessive.

A solid strategy. List a dozen of them all at about 10-15% over recent auction records. Bold strategy cotton. Lets see how it pays Off for him!

Why? They seem like perfectly good, acceptable topics. And the majority of them weren’t started today.

Another "rare" coin that is really not all that rare. Big supply, low demand should depress prices.
“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am. When two expeditions of scientists, financed by the Royal Academy, went forth to test my theory of relativity, I was convinced that their conclusions would tally with my hypothesis. I was not surprised when the eclipse of May 29, 1919, confirmed my intuitions. I would have been surprised if I had been wrong. I am enough of the artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Albert Einstein- quoted in Saturday Evening Post interview (1929)
“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.” For Einstein, honesty was fundamental. Attention to truth in small things reflected a person’s integrity on a larger scale.
At those prices, the affect on the market is up up up! I have bought from bsd - excellent dealer.

If someone is interested and serious, won’t they make one, anyway?

Of course you’re right but the old adage of “all leads are good leads” in sales rings here. By making it an extra level of proactive to initiate a rapport, the dealer misses out on nibbles that could turn into productive bites. I understand effort vs reward logic but can’t truly believe it is ever counter productive to allow people to offer money for one’s items for sale. My 2c

That's quite a hoard! Interesting that none of them appear to be sporting beans. Makes me wonder if they were even submitted.
My experience on eBay is that if there’s not a best offer option and you make one, they don’t respond 9/10 times.
Also, I’m not talking low ball offers. If I see a coin I like I’ll usually ask for less than 10% off.

Low demand??? Seems to me that there are plenty of people collecting Bust Halves by date.

Should be a big market for these especially in the mid "collector" grades.
So Im BSDCOINS on ebay and can give everyone here just a little inside information.
I am helping a true passionate coin collector sell off his collection that was purchased all from 2000-2020. There is a sticker on the back of each slab that tells the date it was purchased. The collector also kept a handwritten journal of every piece he purchased, the year, price, and details about the coin. He truly loves coins.
The collector is in NO rush to sell and if the coins sell at the listed price then great- but if not he HONESTLY would love to put them back in his bank vault where many sat for well over a decade.
There are currently 36 coins listed in many different grades. The number we started off with was much higher, but over the last year I have placed a good handful in many happy collections.
I do understand that hoards have the ability to bring valuations down. However, here there is no fire sale. There is no dumping. There is no "need" to sell.
I decided to list all 36 at the same time because each coin has its own unique character and look. I felt it best to let the buyer choose which coin best fits their collection.
For a collector looking for the right coin, this can allow a great opportunity to have the "pick of the litter".
Remember that ebay and paypal have fees, and if there is any coin you see listed, I can probably do 5-8% better if there are no fees.
The collector also has NOT submitted any coins to CAC. This is his call and I am following it. That said, many great deals have been had and many green and gold stickers made with coins purchased from his collection.

I agree with Andy, lots of date set collectors looking for 1815/2. On Sheridan Downey's [Bust Half Dollar Dealer extraodonaire] table at shows it the most common question. Do you have any decent 1815/2s in stock?
I think that is absolutely stupid! They must be learning from Heritage!
The 1815/2 is not a rare coin, it's just an expensive coin.

What leads you to believe there are only 600 surviving 1815/2 Bust half dollars?

However common it is, the collectors are far more common.

Low Demand? It certainly is an easy sell coin. When you go to shows, even major shows, how many do you see? This hoard will not last long. All the bust half collectors I know want, or have, at least one.
The seller has 41 of them listed right now, appears that someone was trying to corner the market for these. And who knows how many more stashed away. This is a great opportunity to get one if you need one.
Whenever I had an 1815/2 half dollar in stock, it did not last very long.

@joebb21
Appreciate the insight, it has been very impressive to see them all in one place at the same time! Honestly the collection listed is impressive!!
Wow, cool stuff! The 1815/2 might not be "rare", but it is a key date in a very popular series. There are a few very nice ones in @joebb21's Ebay listings too. I'm lucky I already have that slot filled with a very nice coin, otherwise I'd probably consider one of them.
