@Pedzola i haven’t taken any pictures of gold yet. Maybe the profile or color creates those hot spots?
It also looks like the left image has the date better illuminated?
I need to try some gold tonight and see what happens.
Btw, you’re the second person that mentioned the light is night bright enough.
I must have my camera on the wrong settings. I’m not that camera savvy but will note what settings
I have it on and maybe I’m doing something wrong.
Agree the coin has more even illumination overall with the ott, but less contrast. Better contrast on the right with brighter lights farther apart. With dimmer light you need a longer exposure. Im not a photography expert but generally shorter exposure seems to get better results.
Played with some ms and proof silver and gold. Nice mirrors with the ott but struggled to get the right white balance / color. Seems the ott was best on MS silver. Didnt save any other pics.
In today's mail I received a coupon for 50% off any one Joann's item. I went to their website & bought 3. Saved me about 40 bucks. Looking forward to receiving them & seeing how they work for what I do.
@Pedzola keep in mind this is my first shots of gold so I may not have everything right but, I might understand what you are saying. I did however take the first 2 shots with the lights below the camera. The second shots are lights above the camera.
It looks to me that the first two look more washed out and have some hot spots(white) Whereas the last two show more luster and not washed out.....keeping in mind its only a MS63....lol But, seriously does have nice luster.
.
On all the previous shots I didn't have to do any editing but it appears that gold will need a little
Good pictures; many amateurs and semi professionals are looking for better ways to image their coins. What would really sell is a complete system under $200 that is fool proof. I have a Fuji Film camera with a macro, not a super macro; probably hard to get it to be professional. Also I get an off white tan image, not sure why it defaults to that.
@logger7 Have you tried adjusting the color temperature
adjustment? Different lighting has different color. Adjust the white balance to match the color (temperature) of your light source. Try different settings till you get a more natural photo.

The Ott page on Amazon has the colors available on the model at the top of this thread.
Got my Ott today and also had a mint order arrive. The medal was out of the capsule and scratched so I thought why not try the light with a raw coin. I like the light, very easy to use and nice design.
@Kudbegud thanks for posting that. I forgot you can adjust the colors.....I need to try that out. @Bullsitter looks good and glad I can help out some of the members here as all of you mean
so much to me!
Got my light today. Wow! Instantly made a difference, I'm having fun playing around with spacing, height and color. The light is so much easier than my earlier clumsy attempts. Thank you!
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.
Need your own fixtures of course. I don't have any good recommendations there. My setup is not ideal. I am using a microphone boom stand with a socket zip tied onto the end and a very basic lighting stand (vertical adjustment only) for the other.

FYI
I found it or a clone on Amazon. Could be made by Ott and sold by Amazon. Looks Identical. $26.65. AMZ also has the Ott if you prefer the original.

I'll have to try mine OTT lights again as I actually have my Halogen bulb holders clamped on them just using them as a weighted base for a decade![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)

For sure the right light does the trick. This was shot at a friends house under one of those LED lights that are a tube like fluorescent style.
Dark copper can be very difficult to shoot but this one came out well in my opinion:

Took a bunch of pics last night. I couldn't get anything I was happy with on gold. Desk light is just not bright enough on its own.
I have gotten the best results with these cree bulbs from home depot:
Cree 75W Equivalent Daylight (5000K) A19 Dimmable Exceptional Light Quality LED Light Bulb
