HOF Predictions by Card Manufacturers

LarkinCollectorLarkinCollector Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭✭✭

I thought it might be fun to analyze the predictive capabilities of the card companies for future HOFers. I recall several subsets and insert sets in the 90s such as the following for baseball at least:

1991 Score Cooperstown
1993 Pinnacle Cooperstown
1998 Leaf Heading for the Hall

1995 Score Hall of Gold (iffy on this one, but included for the "Hall" reference)

Feel free to add more sets and help build a list for other sports. For baseball, let's draw the line at 2000 and prior, since that should give adequate time for their career to complete and the 5 year wait for voting eligibility.

I'll start it off with the 1991 Score Cooperstown ...

Wade Boggs - Yes
Barry Larkin - Yes
Ken Griffey Jr. - Yes
Rickey Henderson - Yes
George Brett - Yes
Will Clark - No
Nolan Ryan - Yes

6/7 = 85.7%

A small checklist and with three pretty much guaranteed with at least a decade under their belt at that point definitely helped their hit rate.

Baseball - Best to Worst
90% 1993 Leaf Heading for the Hall
85.7% 1991 Score Cooperstown
83.3% 1986 Fleer Future Hall of Famer
73.3% 1998 Topps Chrome Hallbound
70% 1998 Leaf Heading for the Hall

1986 Fleer Future Hall of Famer

    Rose
    Carlton
    Seaver
    Carew
    Ryan
    Jackson

5/6 - all seemed like no-brainer sure-fire Hall of Famers at the end of their career with enough stats to already make it - and still couldn’t get to 100%

Doh, don't know how I forgot the "Threads are more fun with pictures" rule. Added one to the OP.
