Pre-Hobby Protection Act restrikes.

Folks,
I came across a pre-hobby protection act restrike and had to pick it up. I believe it is a 1950's or 1960's reproduction of the early colonial 1753 USA Bar Cwnt. I am intrigued by the lack of the COPY stamp on this example. It is rather sophomorically copied. I don't think it could ever "fool' anyone.
I also have a few notable pieces by Bashlow, Bowers and others. I am interested in seeing yours and knowing it's attribution.
Here is my little Bar Cent.

Your bar cent is a replica rather than a restrike. The S should go over the A rather than below the A on the original die. Also the original dies had a die chip below the right end of the second bar. PCGS Coin Facts discusses this and shows pics of this.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Agreed and understand the differences.
I am interested in both, albeit my budget is more attuned to reproductions vs. true restrikes. I've run across a few Confederate pieces that are clearly neither. The are not from any historical dies, and their design really doesn't capture the original well enough for me to consider it a reproduction.
The words "cheap copy" come to mind. Most strikes I have seen lately with the attribution "Smithsonian" have been in the latter category, such as rhese. They are post HPA and appropriately marked.

When seldom seen items are copied they can be very deceptive for many decades (or centuries) to come. Consider the Becker copies of ancient Roman coins. They were probably sold as copies centuries ago but now easily confuse less experienced collectors of ancients. The Bar Cent copy shown is a much more recent example. Serious collectors of such things won't be fooled but what about those who have little experience with such an obscure issue?
.
I myself would be one of those. Ancients are not in my "wheelhouse" so I wouldn't know one if I saw it. Then again, ancients aren't an area of interest, so for me they are a non-issue.
In pre-interweb days, I can see information being difficult to come by. All expenditures of notable amounts requires due diligence on the part of the buyer, right? I mean, try hiring a home repair company . . . . . .
Anyway, my intent was to discover other similar sleepers and bring them into the light of day . . . . .
