What's going on with NJ postal system?

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 8,709 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have 3 packages stalled in the NJ postal system. 1 for 12 days without leaving, 1 for 5 days and 1 for 3 days. That's kind of weird.
Anyone else?

I had a package that decided to stay in Maryland for a week before moving.

My package from that same area took 33 days - so stop your whining. Actually I was told yesterday the Atlanta and Philadelphia Hubs just started back at full capacity on Monday due to Covid shutting them almost down due to lack of employees - may be the same issue in NJ.

I've been lucky until last week where my package stopped in Newark and remains there for 6 days now.

GSA coming out of Jersey City hasn't updated since 12/10. Probably a goner. F.

I have two ancient coins that just keep bouncing back and forth to the L.A. distribution center for 2 weeks now, the worst bouncing of back and forth I have seen to date.

USPS is really a mess right now. Can't wait for the holiday volume to make it out of the system so it will operate more or less normally again.
Anyone know how registered mail is right now? Would be funny if that suddenly became the faster way to go.

Same here.. had a package leave Florida Dec 30 to be delivered to Detroit Jan 5. No package and no updates since Dec.31.

Had another package from Wisconsin ship Dec 30 finally arrived Saturday Jan 9.

I will add that both were plain first class bubble mailers. Nothing special or valuable.

Many times if you file a missing mail request it gets it moving in the system. ;)

Everything in North Jersey seems to get to a sorting facility and then just sit there for a week. If it's registered it gets parked in Jamaica, Queens (USPS JFK Airport facility) for even longer and the next scan will be the destination sorting facility.

I really am not that upset about the time, just don't want to lose these coins.

Yes indeed. It changed for the worse after Christmas. I think a lot of temps got laid off. My mail arrives anywhere from 10am to 7 pm. Usually some stranger in a van or car drops it b the box. Small packages have taken a week from a few states away. Don’t assume the carrier sent on your route any given day has any familiarity with names on your block. Sloppy work about 3% of the time. If I’m expecting something important that day, I’ll wait out the carrier and make Sure it comes to me not two houses down.

My seated dollar made it from DE to LA in 2 days, via registered. 3 to PCGS.

Received an order from 12/19 last Friday and still have 1 item stuck in Irving TX since 12/23, was shipped from Arlington 12/22. Some things are making it in 3 days though just depends on the location.

It seems to be the norm these days in the NE. I had a Priority Mail package zip right through to VA over the weekend; mailed on late Friday afternoon, arrived Monday morning, ready for pick-up at the post office box.

I received two of my packages yesterday...I had never before seen the red dots in the tracking, ever.
Delays are everywhere. One of my priority packages took a full 3 weeks and the other 2 weeks.

I have a Priority Mail package from New Jersey that hasn't moved in the past week. Two First Class packages from the Chicago area haven't moved in almost three weeks.

All through the Christmas season, I got my packages and mail within 3 days latest and now I see what folks are upset about. Strange that all my problems are with the NJ center. A few years ago, I was constantly having issues with the Indianapolis Post office holding shipments for 2 weeks with no updates, but that ended then. I hope for all of us, it straightens out soon.

Yeah same issues - some packages go quickly - others get stuck. I had one stuck in Maryland from 12/28 until 1/8 then started moving again.

Amazon should start a new service that delivers packages and mail for the USPS :#

I got a package at 10:30pm last night that I purchased the day before on Amazon. Cam was not pleased when she heard it go over the fence.

I fully understand the mess DeJoy made of the service, along with the impact of the pandemic & heavy holiday shipping. I feel for the Postal workers - - and for everyone who has been on the front lines thru it all. So I've learned to be "patiently impatient" waiting for packages to arrive. Hopefully, all will eventually get here......

The biggest beef I have with the USPS is their tracking itself. Say I have a package due to arrive on the 8th. All along, I will either get updates still indicating it'll be here on the 8th & is "making its way thru the system", and then either have radio-silence for several days (or even weeks) until the next status update. And by then, it will have the little blurb that it is "running late" and will not be delivered by that date. But it still shows that date as the "expected delivery date". If you know where it is & you know when it hasn't made it there by, and you have even an inkling of when it will hopefully get there next, then you should update the anticipated delivery date & not just keep the 8th up there & have me guessing where it is (after "leaving a facility" but not arriving at the next one for several days, for all I know....). You have the technology - - just allow it to update better is all I ask. Don't tell me on the 12th it's "running late" and "expected on the 8th"....... :(

one would think that no longer having to knock on doors and get signatures would speed things up.

Had a priority gold coin purchase drop of the radar in Phoenix pm Dec. 4 that showed up in the mailbox on Jan 12 after i got reimbursed by Ebay. That was one happy seller when I let him know it arrived, he hadn't insured it.

Mark, Is Cam a Bullmastiff? What a beautiful dog. The absolute best breed I have ever owned. We lost ours in 2010 to cancer. We have a beagle/boxer mix now. He was a hard luck case we took in. He’s the biggest pain in the a$$ on four legs.
