When a Registry set is retired, aren't the coins in the set supposed to be released?

This is a 1st for me. I recently bought quite a few coins from a registry set. The previous owner past away and the coins were being sold by the estate. Following the PCGS guidelines I sent a removal request for 1 of the coins. Then I went to upload pictures, the 2nd step of the removal request and the function is not working. I emailed PCGS pictures of the coin and informed them of the circumstances. I even sent them a link to the auction results where I purchased the coins. They released the 1 coin and retired the set. Problem is I can't add any of the other coins to my registry.

This kindda makes me mad. While I haven't asked for my set to be reinstated.....yet. While I was caring for my Mom in home hospice I missed a removal request for a coin in 1 of my sets. I replaced a coin and forgot to change it out. Guess what....My set was deleted! So why wasn't this set deleted. This is all within a 2 month timeframe.

I have retired sets in the past and they do not automatically release. It is on the set owner to remove the coins from his or her inventory. In this case, you’ll have work with PCGS to get them removed.

Wow! Hopefully you can get it reinstated.

    Ouch!..Sounds like a legitimate concern.
I only had to do a removal request once and they completed it in a couple days.
If my set got deleted now, I might not want to go through the hassle of doing it again since it really isn't for my benefit.

You’ll have to send pics and cert #’s of the coins you have in your possession and request removal for each.

You can retire a set and still own the coins. The coin owner is only required to release the coin after he is no longer the owner.

The system is a bit odd. It would be great if there was a better way to facilitate a transfer of coins in PCGS inventory. I bought something a week or so ago and I’m still waiting for the owner to remove it from their sets. I sent the request and they haven’t and now sent the pics.

Maybe they could do something with the PCGS Cert app? Maybe if you NFC verify the slab on consecutive days or something they could accept that as a proof?

What happened to you with the set being deleted is how the system is supposed to work, why it did not work that way with the sets you bought coins from is anyone's guess. But even if the sets are deleted I do not believe that would automatically release the coins, but I'm not sure on that.

I have seen a couple comments about sending pictures. That is the old process. There is a app. The process in “My Activities” and you scan the pictures in a link. Since the new process have been in place, I have used several times, with very good results. The releasing of the coin is within a 2 -3 days. Once release, there is a button to add to your inventory. If you are still emailing in as we use to, that could be the problem.

I have retired a couple of sets, while still possessing the coins. But they are not available to include in my active sets. This has been an issue for quite some time. I guess I could "sell" them and re-add them to my inventory?

The app wouldn't accept a picture and I triple checked to make sure it was within guidelines. I've only got 47 more coins to get released...sure seems they would just release the coins as there's at least 200 more out there that I didn't buy!
