eBay Standard International Shipping - Lessons in Insurance
Hi folks,
You might recall I had a prior thread about how this service works. You might also recall that I discovered how it works when I had a package go missing in Israel. Shipped November 17th - disappeared at Ben Gurion airport on December 5th.
For those interested, here's how it wrapped up.
On December 17th the buyer filed an "Item not received".
On December 23rd the Buyer asked eBay to resolve it.
eBay put off a decision until January 3rd because of the postal shipping issues occurring globally.
On January 3rd, eBay refunded the customer's money.
On January 3rd, I filed a claim with eBay for the insurance. It is a short, one-page form that only requires you to attach the buyer's claim and the original payment information, both of which are on eBay already. Very easy.
On January 5th, eBay paid in full. No fuss. No bother. Very easy.
[Note: These were slabbed coins.]

A good ending.
Very Happy to hear that! I have been waiting to hear from someone that had to make a claim. So far I have not....fingers crossed!
1st for me. Went very smoothly. Much easier than any of the shipping services.
i only accept International sales thru the Global Shipping Program. once the package reaches the Global Shipping Center in Erlanger, Kentucky, i am off the hook, they process the order from there
Thanks. Not sure what that has to do with this, but okay.
I ship different ways depending on the method. You can't ship eBay Global for $10 (Canada) to $13.
Boy thats a scenario doesnt happen often, came out in your favor
I don't know that it all came out in my favor. LOL. I took the free $100 insurance but I lost a $150 package. LOL.
But, it is the only economical way to insure anything international. And, while I don't generally insure anything under $1000 anyway, I don't have complete faith in international post offices. Some of them are really sketchy and hard to track packages through.
But it does seem like eBay, or their service provider, are quite rapid with their payment of the insurance. Lord knows how many weeks it would have taken for a USPS claim to get investigated and paid. Of course part of the reason for the rapidity is that eBay had basically already investigated (via tracking) in the preliminary phase and eBay itself had processed both the transaction and the refund so there are fewer questions that needed to be answered.
Either way, it does seem to be a solid program for international shipping.
