Weight is correct.

I soak the coin in pure acetone over night then used a Q-tip to gently rub the coin. Results:

Might be an improper alloy mix and if thems bumps is bubbles, might be a lamination issue. Peace Roy

Or a casting flaw in the Shenzhen mint.

  • Could be heat damage as well if genuine

Don, does it ring like .800 silver when dropped? I find it strange the swath thru the coin where there are no bubbles/bumps. Where the bubbles are, does it look like some king of a coating/film of some kind? The monarch and letters/digits appear correct and not with the Chinese "fake" missing junctions or voids. Never seen anything like it.

I really don't want to drop the coin because I may want to return it with the set I bought. I never had much luck with the hearing test.

Is the swath, both sides, the same width as a piece of scotch tape that may have protected that part from some kind of foreign substance?

Yes, either tape or a tab of some sort that held the coin in. It's weird that the bubbles aren't where the tape/tab was placed.

never seen anything like this either. Looks like some substance affected the silver.
also think there was Tape on it, both sides
Have you tried to remove that tape residue?

I really don't want to do anything to the coin until I decide if I want to keep or return the set of 24 silver dollars.

Looks like tape but the raised bumps are a real concern.

An inquiry with Mike Marshall, an uncontested expert in Canadian forgeries, had the following result:
Mike writes Lacquer with tape strip with tape removed. look at second g of george see the build up?
