"Mistake" on Listings

I recently was notified of a listing on Ebay for a 1960 Topps Carl Yastrzemski RC. The listing had a $125 minimum bid and a remaining duration of about 2 days. I bid on the card. The seller then cancels my bid and cancels the whole listing only to relist it with a minimum bid of $275. I could not see the reason for my canceled bid because the item had been canceled so I contacted him. Here is what he sent me:

"Hi Scott I apologize for that. There was an error in my listing and I wanted to fix it. I did not notice that you had made a bid and I would not have ended the listing if I saw that. Would you like to make another bid?"

What is your opinion on the matter? From my p.o.v. as the buyer, I feel like this was an excuse not to sell the card because demand was lower than he thought given the New Year's holiday etc.

He absolutely knew you had placed a bid because seller's can not end a listing early without canceling all bids first.

That being said, it's his card and if he fears that his card will sell too low he is within ebay's policy (as long as there are more than 12 hours left in the auction) to end his listing.

    Is it bad form, yes.

Depending on if he had already cancelled listings with bids this year, he may have had to pay a final value fee on the $125 you bid.....

Tell him sure, you would like to make a bid of $125 again and see what he says?

He did offer to reset the low bid. I'll check it out tonight.
