Customized Baseball Christmas Gift for Dad

Thought I'd share this display as I thought it presents fairly well. Has a bit of a story to it. Dad is turning 80 this year and I wanted to get him something unique. His short term memory is declining, but his long term memory is strong.

A few months ago he was recanting the story of when he took me and my brother to a baseball game at Wrigley Field where the Cubs and Pirates were playing a game. I recall it vividly even though I must have only been 6 years old. He caught a foul ball that was pitched by Fergie Jenkins off the bat of Richie Hebner. I believe we were sitting on the third base side. Dad caught the ball and in the process broke his watch. Dad mentioned he thought he had the ball still somewhere in the house. He went back to his room and brought it out.

So with the help of Mom, I got the ball and put it into this display. The game occurred in May of 1970, so I also purchased an autograph card of Jenkins and Hebner from the 1970 Topps set to go along with the display. Also got a customized plate to go with the display that shows the date and has the particulars of the situation, Pitcher, Batter, etc. I haven't received that yet, but should be here in plenty of time to affix before Christmas.

Here is the Display. Thanks for taking a look!

    Hi,

    That is an awesome display.
You might want to go to baseball-almanac.com and print & frame a box score of that game.

Thank you everyone for the comments! Dad really liked the gift. Unfortunately wasn't there when he opened it, but I could tell he was was surprised and appreciative and was getting choked up a little bit on the phone when I talked with him. Mom said he wanted to take it to the softball field where he used to play to "show it off" to some of his old friends. I don't think there's much going on now there with Covid and all, but just the fact that he loved it and wanted to share was pretty rewarding.

His Birthday is next week and I was able to find the program from the exact same game! Also, thanks to the advise of @GroceryRackPack , contacted the owner of Baseball-Almanac, and was able to get the box score and some write up of the game. Thinking I will try to put something together, just a simple framing or similar with these items.

    Thanks again!

    Jeff

If I'm your dad the only thing I'd say would be "Where the f*#& is my watch?"

Incredibly thoughtful gift--I'd get choked up too.
