Why is Kayo Boxing 1991 so undervalued?

I've been doing quite a bit of research on these cards, and I'm simply baffled how undervalued - least of all underappreciated - these cards are - especially given how they contain a ridiculous amount of first-appearance rookie cards from Roy Jones, Lennox Lewis, Oliver McCall, Buster Douglas, James Toney, Arturo Gatti etc ~
Is it simply because the cards from the golden age of boxing have much more of a focus as a whole, not including the Tyson/Holyfield 1st rookies, or perhaps due to the print run of Kayo 1991 being possibly rather large?

I've thought about that as well, and I think a lot of it has to do with the print run. If they were rare and hard to find, then they would probably be more valuable and sought after.
Yeah, as if I'm not mistaken, it was among the only set of boxing cards made since the 1950s; but yeah I'd be intrigued to see that print run ~
I love the design of the cards, it's a beautiful set and it has some key rookie cards. It also has the Anaheim National promo cards which are cool, and three signature cards with red borders. The signature cards can be difficult to find. The most desirable signature card is James "Lights Out" Toney.
solid design but w/o a stable of heavyweight contenders like we've had in the past, prevalence of being a rigged sport and the emergence of ultimate fighting leagues, is it even safe to say they are undervalued? they are already playing second fiddle to browns in the boxing card department, as is.
Is there a reason why Tyson is in a promo card but I don't see him on the checklist? The set actually has most of the top heavyweights at the time, most of them became champ at some point in the 1990's, but I don't see Tyson.
I have to say, I'm glad that Kayo made a card of Julian "the hawk" Jackson. He was one of the hardest punchers in boxing history, and his knockouts were just explosive. He has a Kayo Anaheim National card which is my favorite of his. He also has a base 1991 Kayo and a 1991 Ringlords. I wish there were more cards of him. He was fun to watch, there's nothing like a good knockout, and he was one of the best knockout artists of all time. His punches just left guys devastated.
This card has been going up. I think it’s a great shot of him.
I wonder how one would have got those promo cards back in the day? Were they distributed to card dealers?
Strictly for viewing pleasure.

This is one of the most brutal knockouts I ever seen. The fun starts at 18:20.

That Ray Mercer KO was just vicious. I saw that when it happened on TV and I couldn't believe it.
The ref was about 8 punches late to stop it.
Yes, and it was shocking because Morrison was known for his knockout power as well.
Earnie Shavers was one of the hardest punchers in boxing history. I believe Muhammad Ali once said the hardest hitter he'd ever faced was Shavers. He hit Larry Holmes with a shot that makes you cringe, but much to Larry Holmes credit, he got back up and knocked Shavers out later in the fight. But I couldn't believe Larry Holmes could even get back up after being hit with this shot. Just a vicious punch. It might take a second to pop up.
I never knew about those signature cards, least of all the Mike Tyson promo card ~
I presume the signature cards are in normal packs, but are a very are inclusion?
I think they were included in packs, but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen them on Worthpoint before, that's how I found out about them.
@BartAllen2 I have a couple Kayo cards that don’t fit my PC. They’re yours if you want them. Just let me know.
Yaz Master Set
#1 Gino Cappelletti master set
#1 John Hannah master set
Also collecting Andre Tippett, Patriots Greats' RCs, Dwight Evans, 1964 Venezuelan Topps, 1974 Topps Red Sox
I'd say the answer is clearly in the year printed, 1991. Everyone was getting in on the card buying frenzy and they couldn't churn out cards fast enough!
It's boxing. Like hockey, collected by much fewer people.
Seems like a good one to buy 10 boxes, or a case, and sit on it. If a 30 for 30 of Roy Jones comes out, it could be game over on these boxes. Why couldn't they be $100+ per?

I always thought the 1991Ringlords set was very well done.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
I have a sealed case I bought off Craigslist in early 2019 for $100
Sound point, but still rather intriguing ~
They made plenty of 1990 Fleer Basketball and it's $100 a box. Why not this? I bet it's more limited than the basketball release.

Nice. Going to hang onto it?
HOF SIGNED FOOTBALL RCS
For now, yes...and will keep it closed until there is maybe some decent upsized on the sale of individual boxes or PSA 10s of some of the key players, in which case I would probably bust half of the boxes and keep the others unopened..
seems Jones is over $100 in a 10, followed by Lennox

People were fighting each other to overpay for stuff being churned out in the 90s. It seems to me that is happening again in some cases. I am not really watching the basketball market or wax sales, but it sounds ridiculous to me that anyone would pay $100 for a box of 1990 Fleer Basketball. Then again, as it gets older, maybe there is something to it. This is the set you are talking about, correct and not the previous year? It has to be professional grading driven...no other reasonable explanation.
I guess maybe early 90s Skybox and Hoops may someday be valuable too.
The market in general seems off, stuff going for way more than it was just a few months ago. i have been watching Steve Garvey sales on ebay for years. I was recording any PSA8 or better 1971-72, and PSA9 or better 73-77 and PSA10 1979-1981. Recently, I have been recording PSA5 rookies and raw 71-72 cards that are selling for more than PSA8 did.
I won't try to predict the future, but the Garvey RC and 72 Topps have been pretty stable items for years. I just don't see how this trend can continue. It has to be new money, because everyone else that wanted better cards should have had them already and much cheaper prices. It's just weird...
The new money is definitely surprising. I have to think it’s not sustainable.

it isn't sustainable for the overproduced new stuff. People paying thousands for PSA 10 Zions are going to be rudely awakened one day in the not-so-distant future when those cards are going for a few hundred. There are going to be 30k PSA 10 rookies of Zion, Luka, etc., in Prizm alone. There are to be 100k Luka and Zion rookies just in the backlog at PSA, not to mention those that still need to be sent in and those that are still in unopened boxes. I think the early years of Prizm, Select and Optic could be okay long-term, as they weren't massively overproducing them, but the last couple years have seen them run the printers nonstop. I'm sticking with the early 2000s and prior for long-term. There is just way too much of the new shiny stuff -- just watch youtube reveals. 99% of what you see is stuff from 2018 and later.
there was a point where 86 fleer was considered overproduced. couldn't give it away. i'm not saying shiny isn't overproduced, but perhaps reconsider the now global demand thanks in large part to the dream team, technology and fading international borders. china loves basketball. 30k zions 10s wont be nearly enough should he catch even half of jordan's fan base. then factor in that the hobby has changed from set building to player collecting and collectors hoarding 10-20 zion 10s. and you can probably thank the once-considered-overproduced-couldn't-give-it-away $100k 86 jordan's. too bad we were all buying 86 baseball thats now kindling for the most part sans a sandberg 10.
and i probably still have more 90 jordan cards than bol bols.
