TOTD: Is all of this fuss over a little plaque worth it?

TOTD= thought of the day

From someone who loves coin collecting & enjoys the registry, but will never have a #1 set, or win any awards:

I have never seen so many people get so excited about a little plaque with their name on it...
Collect what you want, when you want, and worry less about what others are doing.

    You're alright in my book, Monsta.

    Keith,
    Hope you didn't think I was singling you out or anything. I was going to write that post yesterday before you even put yours up there...If I had more at stake in the Registry, I might be more upset about things. But when you are down at the bottom of most of your Registry Lists, it is pretty funny really.

    Nope, didn't think it at all. Unless I hit a lottery, I won't have a #1 set in my category either. I am amazed at the level of animosity around here though.

    Depends, how big is the plaque?
    Seriously, it takes a good bit of money to complete a set in any grade. When you have the number one set, the plaque is the last thing you are worried about. We're talking major mortgage money for these coins.

    I don't take it seriously cause I'll never been in the top 5 myself. Or 10. Or 15. And if I want a plaque, I could probably save myself some money and buy it at a trophy shop! image

    I'd like to have a PCGS plaque- but only if it is MS68 quality, or better.

    Would it get body bagged? Or would it come as a slab?

    I might get excited if they were passing out cash, but I have plenty of plaques from a former incarnation as a corporate lackey.image

    Yes- but do they have the magical letters, "P" "C" "G" "S" on them? I think not! image

    AS TO THE QUESTION OF PLAQUE, A PERIODIC DENTAL CLEANING WILL USUALLY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM VERY NICELY. image
