1960s-1970s Baseball Card Collection Consolidation: There can be only one...

Hi, I'm _not _a new collector. I've been around these forums since the early 2000s, reappearing and disappearing as I work on my collection of Topps baseball from the 1960s and 1970s.

I have complete sets from 1970 to 1978, all EX to NM-MT depending on year. If I was to consolidate my collection into a single card, one that would gain value faster than the individual sets yet represent that era, what would you recommend?

Imagine I sell my collection for $10k. Should I put it into a PSA 8 Pete Rose RC? A 1969 Mantle Yellow Name PSA 9? Or something else?

Stay safe,
JSK

hmm. Instead of sets maybe just select what you feel is the key card from each of those sets in as high a PSA condition as possible ? If you are looking for an iconic card from the 60's and one from the 70's my choices would be a centered 1968 topps Nolan Ryan psa 8 and a 1975 topps George Brett psa 9. You could probably land those 2 for 8-10K.

I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

Trying to pick which card will rise in value fastest is a fool's errand. Pick out something you really like. Chances are others will really like it too, unless you're really eclectic like me, but I don't expect great appreciation from my 1976 number 564.

Congrats on completing all the sets.
Your question is like asking which stock to buy while the market is at an all-time high.

JMHO, portrait Cobb or Cy Young in a 4 or 5 haven't been priced correctly yet.
We should be seeing tremendous upside on some rarer T206 issues.

    Welcome back.

Mantle, Clemente or Ryan seem to have very big followings of collectors with lots of money to spend.

1962 is a very popular year as well. 62 Clemente PSA 9 for $10,000.00 or so? Managers Dream with Mantle and Mays PSA 9 would run the same?

1971 Ryan might be a good choice too. Very popular year and player.

Thanks for the suggestions (and the welcome back). Keep them coming!

With over 7,079 cards I'm starting to think about the future. Anyone familiar with Swedish Death Cleaning? Hint: it's not a Nordic metal band. My kids have no interest in my collections, so it might be better for me to make it easier for them by consolidating them down to a few things that are high-value rather than leaving them to deal with diva eBay buyers arguing whether a 1973 raw common is EX or EX-MT after I'm dead.
