PSA Grade Inconsistency

I just received my card back from PSA and received a grade of 2. In the images, this is the MUCH cleaner card in every regard. My problem is that I received the same grade that this other card was given and they are not even close to the same grade, which I am positive you can all agree with. As this is my first submission to PSA, is there anything I can do to get this corrected?

Thanks for any and all help!

Nope. All you can do is scratch your head and try again

The cut down the right side is wonky and really hurt the grade.

  • It is a hand cut card and didn't expect the best grade, but that cut is nothing compared to the quality of the edges in the other card.

IMO, both should have the same grade, Auth. A number grade on either is a gift. Hand cuts are tricky, but if there are dashed borders available on the uncut item, they should be visible on the single to achieve a number grade (like the right side of the top one).

In lower grades, there can be a wide variance in eye appeal. The bottom PSA 2 will sell for much more than the top one, regardless of technical grade.

Something else that bears mentioning . . .

PSA does not grade cards on a relative basis, they grade each on its own merits or lack thereof.

This is my understanding from discussing a similar "issue" a few years ago.

I agree with Larkincollector. ask for Auth.

FWIW, I have both of these in my personal collection and feel like each is appropriately graded. I like to at least get a number grade on my handcuts, but the Auth is a much higher eye appeal card ...

The PSA 1 would be technically a higher grade (though it doesn't really matter for registry weighting purposes) than the Auth, but if forced to keep only one, it would be the Auth for the far superior eye appeal.

this is going to sound harsh but it's the simple truth. you should be happy w the numerical grade assigned due to the cut and lack of the designated border that is clearly visible on the right hand edge on the other 2. per psa's standards, that thin-black-line border is supposed to present to obtain a numerical grade. thus comparing it to the other example is a moot point.

if i had the choice, i'd rather have your example. i wouldn't get caught up on the assigned grade, honestly. yours would command more even if the beater was assigned a 3, imo.

i think you'd also be playing w fire should you choose to crack and resub. the chances of it coming back an A are highly probable. you actually caught a break. i know that's not what you want to hear, but it's the truth.

  • a 2.5 would not have been unreasonable. you should also give it a tap to straighten it in the holder
