American Numismatic Society on eBay (clarification post)
Hello everyone!
I wanted to write a post to provide some clarity around a new endeavor by the American Numismatic Society to offer duplicates from our collection to the general public in a fair and open way. I have already fielded some phone calls at the ANS asking if our eBay presence is legit, so I figured it would help if I made my way around the various coin forums to post this information.
To start, the American Numismatic Society does have an eBay presence as of last Wednesday Nov. 25 when our first auctions went live. I will be populating the store weekly if not daily. All items are duplicates from the ANS collection, and all proceeds from these sales will directly benefit the ANS as a non-profit organization dedicated to the art and science of numismatics.
A little bit about myself: I am an entrepreneur and collector, and was recently hired by the ANS to design, build, and implement this program. I am here to answer any questions that I can, and will try to stay active on this board and other coin forums.

Thanks, and looking forward to interacting with everyone on the PCGS forum!

Interesting. Good luck, I added a couple to my watch list for now.
Here's a link to your ebay page.

Thanks @Meltdown! Including the actual eBay link in my initial post would've have been helpful
Right now we are posting a lot of U.S. material, but there will be plenty of melt silver, world coins, medals, etc. coming down the pipeline. Most of these items have been in our vault for decades if not longer, and are finally seeing the light of day again.
Also, there will be no reserves on any of our listings, and starting bids for almost all items will be $1. My hope is that there will be something for everyone once things really get rolling!
Now I wonder if our hosts would add that 'ANS' pedigree...
Better photos would help. For example, you have 52 Canadian tokens in one lot with one photo, mostly of the edges. How can that help me make an educated bid price?
Similarly, if you were to list descriptions of the tokens so that people's search terms would be triggered, that would net a better price as well.
It seems many museums are de-accessioning items so the income can go to aid in keeping the organizations viable. A local museum is doing such a thing. I do not proclaim to know that this is the ANS reasoning for these sales. But if so I hope that their sales are successful in this regard.
What @pruebas said. Glad to support ANS in this way. Peace Roy

Nope. We just need more room. None of what you see (yet) has been deaccessioned because it was never accessioned to begin with.

@pruebas @Namvet69 thanks for the honest feedback regarding photos! For larger lots moving forward I'll try to take additional photos to help show more of what's actually there, as well as adding more keywords to trigger saved searches. This is of course new to us, so this kind of feedback is very helpful.
Talk about a great pedigree!!
