question about 2021 Silver Eagles?

PTVETTERPTVETTER Posts: 5,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

It looks like the 2021 Unc Silver Eagles will have the same reverse as the 2020 in the first half of the year.
And in the second half of the year the New reverse will be released!

Now the question will the Proof Eagles have 2 different reverses?

Yes I believe so. On the 2021 product list, there are 2 silver eagles that will be released that are minted at West Point.

Some people think that the 2020-W proof ASE being issued on January 7 will likely carry the old heraldic eagle reverse. The Mint's website doesn't make this clear, the last time I saw it.

The Mint advertised the 2020 S Proof ASE as the final numismatic coin to be released with the original reverse. This appears to be contradicted by the Jan. 7th release of the 2021 W Proof ASE, which I bet will have the old reverse.

The Mint could have been a bit deceptive in their advertising, or maybe they just changed their mind - it's been known to happen.

I think the mint said that the 2020 S proof ASE was the last of that reverse to be minted at San Francisco not West Point.

it is fully expected they will sell both proof reverses.

the fear is that they eill make some sets, then some different finishes, then some other stuff, then some more stuff ...

I'd love to see something like we did in 2008 with the 2007 reverse. That was fun indeed!

Yep, keeping my eyes peeled for exactly that. Maybe a race to be the "discoverer"?

Likely be some clarification later this month....Perhaps pictures added, since the release is just over a month away. Cheers, RickO

So then is this a new series, new registry set etc? You cannot add the new design to the existing registry set.

I also hope this existing design set of silver eagles in the registry can be finalized, and a new registry set started.

That will help get more new people involved as it is a bit of effort and expense to collect all that were minted in 35 years. I think there are about 93 in the current complete set with different finishes, mint marks, etc., plus whatever new ones still show up in 2021.

Edited to say closer to 100 (per ernie11 below) with a single 2021.

There can always be a "complete registry set version", but the design subset from 1986-2021 should be finalized.

Well whatever they do, in whatever configuration or mess the mint makes, I will acquire the last of the current iteration of ASE proof and then leave the new ones to a new generation

If the 2021-W ASE proof issued January 7 is the old reverse, I think I count an even 100 coins of this type (including the 2008-W reverse of 2007).

Thanks. I think you are right. The 2020's were not all showing up in the count I did. I will edit.

Is the burnished 2000 from the Mint's Millennium set included in the complete set of 100?

Looks like a normal 2000 MS silver eagle to me with over 9 million struck. It is in the set, but not as a separate variety and not with that green certificate.
