I wish football came on during the week, I need sports. The closest thing to sports I can find on TV right now is WWF Smackdown wrestling. I just watched a grown man in his underwear get beat down with a steel chair!

guys, feel free to castigate me in every possible way, but it was determined that the optics will be improved if we strip the funds that are attached to some of these contests. and i get it. i have no doubt that anyone who has ever decided to pony up scratch did so with the best intentions in mind, but in reality it's a tenuous limb we're venturing out onto.

tell you what, i will create a special sig line for the winner of this week's contest and keep it up until the end of the year. then every time i flap my fingers on here, everyone will know just how prescient you are.

    good luck to all!

Galaxy, so if I were to demand a $500 fee just for making an appearance in the contest,
which I was seriously considering, you're saying I can go eat dirt, correct?

  • thisistheshowthisistheshow Posts: 9,386 ✭✭✭✭✭

Bragging rights are still on the menu, correct?

    my 2 cents...

We are all guests of PSA here. Like being in a casino, we are guests of that establishment. Its by their generosity that they allow us to play and goof around here. They can, and will toss you for any indiscretion they consider detrimental to their bottom line. I have a friend that got perp walked out of Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS...he got too greedy and was using signals to cheat in Mississippi Stud. He deserved what he got, despite my constant warnings of taking too much. He was infected by the thrill of having lots of yellow and purple chips, that's $1k and $500 chips. The story is long, but hopefully you get the point...don't try to poke your host in the eye and expect them to take it. If you've been to the Beau Rivage, they walked him out from the high roller pit straight through the casino to the curb on hwy 98 for all to see, surrounded by 5 guys in suits. He was up $14k when he got the tap. This from a guy making over $250k per year at his real job...it was the crazy thrill of winning and winning.

They, like PSA, are the jury and judge, its their sandbox and we must adhere to their rules. How many former posters have we seen just disappear and get the red box? There may even be legal liabilities incurred by PSA for appearing to run a gambling establishment...laws get crazy.

I assure you, I am not anti gambling, and was once RFB at the Mirage in Vegas...meaning Room Food Beverage was comped. You gotta play a lot of blackjack to earn that. I enjoy gambling and have done ok over the years.

My point is this...if some moderator begins to get wind of a monetary award for our guessing who chose the most wins in a certain week of NFL football, who's to say they don't nuke us all for participating? At the very least, we are surely subjective to severe reprimand.

I think Galaxy27's post was spot on, no castigation needed, just common sense. To those who offered the funds, credit to you, but this is not the arena within which to offer a cash prize for the lucky guessers. Take the bragging rights and enjoy the moment. Bet with your friends, or some other legal method.

picks sent. Heck with the money, it's all about the Bragging rights and he rep that goes with it!!!

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,009 ✭✭✭✭✭

As a Philly fan, i'm not sure that i can accept bragging rights. As young children, we are schooled to never brag about our teams winning, and always console the losing team's fans with kindness, warmth, and a big hug.

But since bragging rights are the noted prize, if i happen to win, i will accept the prize gracefully, and promise not to laugh too hard at the losing players for making the wrong picks.

    ;)

I'm still kicking myself for picking the Falcons over the Saints a few weeks back. I just can't let it go. Why do I take these stupid risks? I'm stupid, that's why! Stupid!

  • 2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,449 ✭✭✭✭✭

I understand the concern. This was not a gambling contest, more of a bragging rights contest. No one had to put up an entry fee to join. The prize money were donations for fun. We’ve gone 12 weeks without a hick up and the posts have been there for all to see. It’s not like this has been done by PM’s and some clandestine cloak of darkness. But if our hosts say enough is enough that’s good enough for me. It’s was and has been all in fun. These threads have gotten 100’s of posts and 1000’s of looks from long time members that not only post here but purchase PSA cards. Have fun today and enjoy some football.

I was just in my PayPal account to see how bragging rights can be transferred, but i couldn't figure out how to do it? 🤔

It’s time for Carson Wentz to be the man today. Beating the Packers in Green Bay would go a long way for their playoff push. This is a win nobody sees coming, except the Swami. I’ll hear Stevek cheering all the way from Texas

    Tks for putting this together.
I had to reduce to 50% to see all entrants...did I miss something?

Any statisticians out there? What are the odds Perkdog and I would pick all games and points exactly the same?
How do we share bragging rights? What's the rule? B)

Surely DD can come up with a pic for this.

per my calculations, we're down to 4:

    Brick
    doubledragon
    thisistheshow
    LarkinCollector

the winner is uncertain, but it's guaranteed to be decided by the breaker

Brick and doubledragon are leading the way with 8 wins, and the rest of their picks are the same (Kansas City, PIttsburgh, Buffalo, Baltimore)

thisistheshow and LarkinCollector have 7 wins, but thisistheshow chose Dallas and LarkinCollector chose Washington. if either of those teams win, they'll tie Brick and doubledragon.

in other words, we're guaranteed to have at least two involved in Tuesday night's breaker, but there could be as many as three

best of luck to those still in the hunt!

I'm at seven with the same picks as Brick and DD, WTG guys. the game that really messed me up is the Patriots. I can see them winning, but 45-0?? c'mon, man..................... :o

looking at the spreadsheet it seems the "Upsets" that surprised everyone were the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots. then there's the "shocker" that accounted for the unanimous losing pick: how did the Giants beat the Seahawks!!??!! :#

thanks to galaxy for the work on the spreadsheet. B)

Looks like the G men are playing very well. Solid D, run the ball and when they don't turn it over, they're very tough to beat. Looks like my Eagles are going for a high draft pick. And I believe they only have their first round pick out of the first 3 rounds. Not good. Lots of holes to fill.

Did anyone else have to watch the KC/Broncos game in Spanish?
