Mahomes Rookie Card Advice Needed

I have a good friend who approached me who is just getting into collecting and wants to purchase a PSA 10 Mahomes rookie card. I am not a modern collector so I have no idea which rookie card would be the best for long term. He is willing to spend 2500 on a rookie card of Mahomes. Help my friend spend his money. What rookie card would you suggest he buy? Thanks in advance for the input.

I'm not an expert on Mahomes by any means but if he's looking for a PSA 10, the Optic Holo looks like it's right at that price level.

I'd buy a small basket of PSA 10s...Optic, R&S Stellar, Score...if insistent on 1 card, I like the Optic holo...right around 2500 right now

I’d suggest to your friend now is not the time to be buying mahomes. Buy low sell high. Something like that.

Good advice no doubt. I tried that and he said "Do I wait until he wins another Super Bowl"? He is fired up and ready to buy now. It will be interesting to see which one he selects.

I agree...don't see much of a reason for them to go down...I guess if they don't win the Super Bowl this year, then the off-season may afford a chance at lower prices

I would buy something short printed if possible. I still regret not jumping at a PSA 9 2000 SP Authentic Tom Brady at $2500 in the 08/09 range. I've been out of the game for a few years now but I assume there must be a /999 Parallel

I agree...don't see much of a reason for them to go down...I guess if they don't win the Super Bowl this year, then the off-season may afford a chance at lower prices

Maybe when all of these folks new to collecting who are artificially driving prices up decide they aren't interested in Sportscards and move on to the next hot thing again? Or move back to sneakers? Or whatever they were into for the history of time UP UNTIL Covid-19, which suddenly jumpstarted their interest in this one niche for whatever reason?

I absolutely agree. I see many people talking about "investing" in cards right now because it's so hot. Isn't that what happened in the early 90's? I do believe prices will be going down for the "fad" items. I will let you define what the term "fad" means.

The Optic Mahomes Holo is one of my favorites and will most likely be the "base" card RC to get going forward. The picture has a clear shot of his face and the pose looks great. The Red Yellow Prizm version is nice as well since it matches the Chiefs team colors.
