This is one of my very first coins. In first grade (2002-2003), they had us trying to learn how to do math with coins. One of my friends found this wheat penny in their pile of coins, and they brought it over to me since they knew old coins were “my thing.” So I guess that you could say this coin came from circulation in the early 2000s, since I believe the teacher got the coins for the math lesson from the bank.
When I was collecting cents in the mid-sixties I never did find a 55-s in circulation. Finally bought an uncirculated piece for $1.00. Had a hard time with the 54 cent also. I think I only found one of those.
Next door to the elementary school I went to was a little corner store. It was Mobbed at lunchtime...kids getting penny candy mostly. One day I got a few 1954 P cents in change. Totally Excited by this I managed to talk my way behind the candy counter to look through the register change. You know, there were Dozens of them of them in there! Yes, I managed to get them all and they filed Most of the blank holes in the new Memorial book. , which had a lot of unused “future” holes. And yes, fifty years later they are Still in there! I was born in 1954 same as the coins. Though found about 1966 ALL were well circulated with NO red lurking anywhere.
I was ten in 1955. Was in the bowling ally when the cashier said she had rolls of the new 55 s pennies and was giving them out in change. I had no interest at that time although I would find Barber's, Indian heads, silver dimes, quarters, halves, dollars in change. All I cared about was football and baseball.
Kept everyone I could find as a kid - birth year coin and S-mint coins, in general, were scarce in the midwest.
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
The one in my Whitman looks BU from roll searches. I have others somewhere. Still have not found 69 though, D yes, S yes, All found from roll searches and change, from 39 all filled up to 1974, except that hole in 69. Even found a VDB in change.

I have one in an old Whitman. I checked and it looks uncirculated. Just a quick glance and I would guess low UNC BN.
