I have this 1963 d nickel that weighs 5.16 g I want to find out why would a nickel weigh so much more than the 5 g of USA nickel .

That is still within weight tolerance but toward the upper end.

The specifications for a nickel are 5.000 grams +/- 0.194 grams,
